Do I need to upgrade my keyboard?

Currently, I'm rocking a vintage Logitech Classic Keyboard 200, rather than the Dell KB216t that came with my computer, because I don't like chiclet keyboards, and I'd rather have a spring membrane than rubber-dome. I am completely certain that the sloppiness of this keyboard is hindering the possible scores I could get playing this and other games. Should I upgrade to Mechanical?

Wouldn't that be a downgrade? The K200 is USB 2.0, the K120 is only USB 1.1.

Switching styles of keyboards can be personal preference based so it's hard to tell you to because some people do better with different things. Yes, you should see better actuation times dependent on which ones you select.
But it's almost best for you to just try it for yourself.
This might be useful if you don't know much about the different styles of Mechanical involving Cherry MX.
Sidenote, it's funny how i was wondering the same thing a few weeks ago and ordered a mechanical to try to replace my Logi G110.

Honestly man, I don't think the keyboard is what's holding your scores back.

If you're certain though, go to a store and try some out. It doesn't have to be a mechanical keyboard either. I played on a $9 keyboard for years and got fairly good during that time

I'm currently using a corsair strafe with mx silent switches. It's a nice balance between the clicky mechanical feel from reds and the rubbery feel from membrane keys. Plus it's pretty damn quiet.

            Too bad they discontinued.

I agree with this though for the most part. You can adapt to how a keyboard feels and knowing it's limits/depressed time for a key. But it all boils down to, limitations of speed for your fingers, being able to register with sight-reading and your brain knowing when to. I think of the keyboard just as an accessory extension that makes up a small margin, because sometimes the height, placement on how you can rest your hands or whatever does factor to an extent from what I've noticed personally. I have played on some uncomfortable keyboards compared to, lets say, the one im using now. But that didn't stop me from getting 150+ AAA's with that cheap garage sale keyboard. I learned with that.

Re: Do I need to upgrade my keyboard?

I mean, it depends, certain keyboards don't have n-key rollover (being able to press all keys at the same time), depending your key setup if thats the case then it could be possible to be be able to play certain chord combos or quads (like if u used df gh or something as ur key setup)

keep in mind that attang got to absolute top level using a macbook keyboard as well as a membrane keyboard. a mech will probably help and it feels nicer for general typing too but its definitely not required and won't just make you instantly better

imo the best brands for keyboards are ducky and filco, ive had a ducky for like 2 years and play for like 2 hours a day every day, and not a single key has stopped working, but theyre pretty pricey, plus john henry lee uses a ducky and windyS does as well

regarding switch types id argue that most of the top players use/say browns are best, followed by red, but its all preference.

I remember a few years back alot of people were recommending magicforce 68s, theyre a great value for a mechanical keyboard and are under $50 https://www.amazon.com/Qisan-Mechani.../dp/B01E8KO2B0 I know etienne used one/still does (not sure if he still does but he used one for a considerable time), theyre gateron switches not cherry which are i suppose slightly lower quality but theyre still good

Re: Do I need to upgrade my keyboard?

Well, I conducted a test. I switched out the K200 for the "modern" KB216t, cliclets are still gross, and the rubber-dome left my hands fatiguing at a much faster rate than previous. (The feeling of the mushy domes is atrocious) However, that being said, I did have improved key registry, but not enough to make a permanent change. So I think a new keyboard is in order, because I'm not going to let missed keystrokes hinder my playing.

So, the last time I was seriously into speed typing and looking at investing in a mechanical keyboard was nearly a decade ago. The market has changed technology has changed and Cherry patent has expired allowing other companies to start innovating and offering competing products.

I have to have a 10-key, and it has to be wired. I don't care about shiny lights, or any marketing gimmicks that target "gamers". I have a budget of poor. After about a week of searching, so far the best I have found is the RedDragon K551-N. I'm open to opinions and suggestions. Including searching for older models as people upgrade.

Going to echo this. Zenith got to D7 using probably one of the worst laptops I've heard of anyone in recent times using, some relic Apple G-Book or something along those lines, Funnygurl is a high level D6 player who also uses a laptop keyboard, so it's all about the individuals skills first and foremost.

It might help, and would certainly be an upgrade, but on the flip side of that coin, you might just invest the money into it and still be at the same exact skill level.

Personally I primarily use an old Dell SK8115 membrane keyboard as well as newer chiclet style one as I've never had reason to suspect my keyboard to be the issue with my scores/skill.
