For real though, a SD card is a storage medium that can be compared to a USB flash drive or a computer hard drive. The benefit of a SD card is that it is small enough to fit inside cameras and phones while still providing fast read and write speeds.

i'd rather hear someone explain it who knows what it is and who has experienced it than to read a definition on wikipedia or somewhere else on the internet

Something to note about SD cards is the speed in which it takes in it's data if you're using it for something like, say, high frame rate still-image photography. Other than that, it is as it's been said just a mini floppy disc that goes into most cameras. Most laptops have a port on the front of them where you can stick it, otherwise using something like a camera and then having a plug into your computer (or simply some kind of adaptor but if you already have a camera, why not try that), to view the contents.

There's the option of using the micro-SD cards, which exist in phones most of the time for extra storage, to be placed into full sized SD cards to adapt it for devices like your computer, if you have one (there are also USB drives that take said micro SD but if you're like ME and want to play Nintendo DS games illegally then the micro-SD-> SD port is useful)

you can play any games on devices with sd ports and the right software on whatever device you're using

I have a gameboy advance emulator on my phone that I use to play the old Final Fantasy games

do you directly use DS cards or do you need another device to set it up? i have an SD port on my old phone that slides; is it possible to play the DS games directly with a card, or do you need an emulator?

Ew I would not prefer a phone over the ergonomic fitting style of the DS, but up to you. Emulation is available for either platform. I gotta say it was awful fun laying in bed binge playing Super Nintendo games and having the save state(s) and other features on the bottom screen ready to be touched accordingly. It worked really well. Also L & R buttons served as forward and rewind buttons for the NES one I had.
