I'm not amazing at picking out parts, but I think you'd be fine saving money by going with the latest gen i5 instead of an i7. Just get one with an unlocked multiplier and overclock it a bit. From what I've read, the FPS gain from i5 to i7 isn't really worth the money difference.

Also, 256GB seems like a decent amount of space until you start installing games. Try to get a 1TB-2TB HDD so you can install more games and swap them around as you play them.

My friend had issues with OutletPC not having items in stock despite being able to order them. I suggest using Amazon or Newegg especially if you have Amazon Prime or ShopRunner.

AMD's new card, the Radeon Fury X, might be a better option than that 980ti. The benchmarks out perform the 980 on virtually every game..even the Nvidia optimized ones!
I think it's priced around the same pricepoint or less and it's got it's own built in water cooling loop with 120mm fan. High bandwith memory too.

Might be a few weeks/months before it's readily available though that's probably the only con.

That said the 980ti isn't exactly a joke, so yeah both will perform nicely.

Might want to add another ssd or a big hdd, but other than that it looks pretty solid.

There is no fps gain from an i5 to an i7. The differences aren't anything that games are programmed to utilize.

The build looks solid though. I'd probably put a closed loop water cooler on the cpu, but it barely matters. Also I'd put some 7200 rpm HDD in there for extra space for big games.

Wait 3 - 4 years for SSD drive technology to boom and at the same time have a price crash.

They're already working on 1TB - 10TB SSD drives w/ upwards of 550MBps access speeds, and the price for them are dropping.

          Would recommend what Kibblre said.

Nah. You can get something for around $280 that'll do you well. The 980 Ti came out like, three weeks ago and is one of the best cards you can get at the moment. Seeing as I havent put a desktop together for oh around ten years now & my labtop is suffering from extensive use I said screw it and threw all my money at a new setup. I actually ordered a 1TB HD off Newegg a little bit ago. The i7 was a bundle with the mobo from Microcenter and since theres one about a half hour away from me I took the deal. Sure could have saved a bit with an i5 but ~$400 for the i7 CPU & Mobo (with 2 year warranty) had me sold. Only two or three things I have left to get at this exact moment are a copy of Windows (the whole OEM version sounds scary; I can't get a good answer if it'll get the Windows 10 upgrade or not) the 980 Ti & a monitor. My brother is giving me his monitor & Ill have my tv for the time being. Cheers all. Thanks for your feedback (:

wait till the new generation of i5 comes out (the skylake) which will support DDR4 ram

not that you will ever need DDR4 ram but if youre going to go high-end regardless
i'd probably wait it out since i heard prices are going to be similar that of the haswell generation

i wont say haswell is gonna be fully replaced because that'll last for another 5-6 years on the market

i'd say if youre not going to stream then go for i5-4690k
but if youre going to stream then go for i7-4790k

regardless, i5 does a good job streaming whatever that's not CPU intensive (stuff like FFXIV)

very nice setup imo. i honestly wouldn't go with the radeon fury from the simple fact that it's AMD. and no, it's not cuz i'm an nvidia band wagoner, i have had 2 AMD cards and 2 nvidia cards, and can honestly say the nvidia ones lasted much longer as far as steady performance. i would take a 980 ti over an radeon fury any day, even if the initial performance is slightly behind, because that thing is going to actually last.

                            I just got a MSI R9 390 Gaming 8G video card.
Pretty stronk. $300 price point seemed like a great value/performance tradeoff and I went from not meeting the system specs for Witcher 3 to being able to play it with no issues at maxed settings.

Honestly if you have 1k to blow on a custom build that's a decent card to consider.
The other one around $300 that is highly recommended is the GeForce GTX 970.

                            These should help:

In most gaming builds at that price point, a third to half of your budget will be a graphics card, around a quarter to a third will be a motherboard and CPU and cooling, and the rest will be for literally everything else. In other words, you can usually really afford to go hard on the graphics card because the other parts are less likely to be a bottleneck in performance on high-end games.
So keep that in mind when you look at prices.
