    upgrade help

    I have a dell optiplex gx280 with Pentium 4 and xp could i use the same case and upgrade parts or should i just buy a new computer. im using a laptop for my internet cause the Ethernet port on my pc doesn't work. i have a toshiba satellite l355d amd turion x2 laptop with vista.

      In order to get a modern cpu you would have to get a modern motherboard. I'm also willing to bet that your dells powersupply only has a 20 pin plus an extra 4 pin power connector so you'd probably need anew power supply for a 24 + 8. Dell cases are probably all proprietary so you wouldn't be able to fit a new motherboard into it and have the IO panel fit in the back. You would need new ram too because the new motherboard would only support ddr3 instead of ddr2.

      You can build a moderately good modern computer for about 400-500 if you don't care about a good graphics card. Even then you can get a 750 for $100 or a discounted older gen card for cheaper.

      I'd recommend getting a whole new computer after saving up about $500.

          Before you take Izzys advice, I suggest letting us know why you are wanting to upgrade. Depending on what you plan on doing with the computer, you can save money, or be spending a bit of money. Also giving us some sort of idea as far as how much you want to spend goes will help out.

              i want to upgrade cause microsoft is gonna stop support on xp. i also wanna play games my laptop is slow to play like steam and most mmos.

                  That doesn't mean windows xp is going to stop functioning. You can still use your computer with no changes. I would still upgrade though if you can get the money.

                              Believe me, you don't want to keep XP. It basically just doesn't ask you if you wanna let programs change shit in your computer.
