    New Keyboard Recommendations

Right now I'm using an acer USB multimedia keyboard made by Standard Keyboards. It doesn't really give much info on it but it's the one that came with my PC which I've been using for almost 3 years now. I've tried this program called "KeyScan", and the majority of the combo of keys I pressed only register 2 at a time and very few register 3 keys at once. I've tried all the arrow combinations and it only registers 2 at once, which explains why every time I would hit a triple or quadruple note in FFR, it wouldn't register...

So I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a keyboard that's not too expensive and also registers at least 4 or more keys at once. The main reason I want one is for FFR and maybe a few other PC games, so it doesn't necessarily have to be super top of the line or anything... thanks.

EDIT: I have Windows 7 if that helps...

Great thread to read through. Mechanical keyboards are definitely the way to go for the record. They cost more, but keep in mind they'll last a LOT longer than standard keyboards. I think the general numbers are 5 million keystrokes on a membrane keyboard and 50 million keystrokes on a mechanical keyboard. Most, if not all, mechanical keyboards have 6 key roll over (6 keystrokes at once) with USB, and some come with USB to PS/2 adapters that will N-key rollover (every key will register no matter what). If you're new to mechanical keyboards, I'd check out this link as well: http://www.pcworld.com/article/24203...ht_switch.html . It'll give you a good idea of what each switch is like if you didn't know before hand.

If all else fails, try the combinations of keys on separate lines (Z,X,J,K), or utilize the numpad (K,L,Num5,Num6).

If you want to spend more that you should, get a qpad mk50. Mine gave me a nice little skillboost and works great.

Or see if you can get your hands on an old IBM keyboard. Those things are the nokia of kb's.

Thanks for the links. I never look at the FFR General Talk section so I didn't know that thread existed. I also read through the mechanical link thing too so I think I have a better idea now of what to look for. I'm probably going to look right now and buy one, so thanks for the links and advice.

If you still didn't find one yet, here's the one that I'm getting.

I'll probably check out a local place and maybe Best Buy tomorrow for one. I also saw a few on Amazon I liked too since your link reminded me to check on Amazon. That one is nice, but the keys are too fat IMO since I'm really used to the flat keys now. So I'll probably look for a mechanical one with smaller or comepletely flat keys like I have now.

You wont find a mechanical keyboard with flat keys. If you want flat keys, Logitech Illuminated is probably the way to go, but there are lots of ghosting issues with it. You probably will have little luck at best buy, unless you want a Razer BlackWidow.

Also you probably want to inform yourself on the different kinds of switches before you buy a mechanical keyboard.
[Official] Mechanical Keyboard Guide Fact: Nearly all keyboards sold bundled with computers or at retail stores use rubber domes under their keys. This is the same technology used in cheap TV remotes. They're made to be as cheap as possible to manufacture in order to maximize profits. Yes, this...
