macs are great for the graphic design field mainly because it has much more accurate colour correctional output between screen and print, and it renders typefaces way better than PCs do—PCs give rasterized mush in comparison to seamlessly smooth lines, regardless of what kind of fancy monitor you have unfortunately. and at least macs use mainly opentype and postscript fonts, which aren't any of the truetype PC bullshit—for the record, whatever fonts that came on your PC aren't actually the real typefaces, they're just poor alternate renditions microsoft throws in. and of course they're great for video editing, and other media related work.

other than that, I'd just buy a PC for your reasons because you can further upgrade it yourself later if you need a better machine and you'd save money in the long run with maintenance costs if anything should happen to your mac zzz

This was helpful. I made my decision yesterday to not bother. I'll be fine without one.

MBP keyboard nearly doubled my stepmania skill, it just blew my mind.

I also recommend QPAD brown if you aren't getting a mac.

          or basically any mechanical keyboard

scissor switches in the slim apple keyboards are nice too, also the logitech k800 backlit is pretty similar to the xflat which i believe was used by many players in the past.

          Released!

I'm using a Razer Blackwidow 2013 edition right now, and it seems to be solid. I do really like the Mac Pro keyboard though. To be honest I like any slim/flat keyboard.

Yeah even the iMac flat keyboards are great.

But anyway, I've been studying film for 1.5 years now and I actually did a lot of work on a 13" Macbook Pro. Honestly speaking, its great for all kinds of media work. I managed to do a shitton on Photoshop work on the trackpad alone, before my teacher told me "get a mouse, dammit".

As for Stepmania, I enjoy playing it there too. However, I tried not to be so intensive because my bro owned it and told me its not a rugged machine. I can't tell you exact details like the exact offset and all that, just that I enjoyed playing for it.

Therefore, my conclusion is, buy it for media work and Stepmania will be the bonus.

I AM ASHAMED OF MY STUPIDITY AND MUST COMMIT SEPPUKU. FORGIVE ME, FFR.

Does anyone know if all versions of Stepmania are compatible on new Mac OS'? If not, does anyone know specifics? Buying a laptop probably before the end of the week and I really don't want a Windows 8 laptop.

Not all version are. Some of the older ones are PowerPC applications, which are no longer supported by mac. You will never be able to use these applications, unless you downgrade to Leopard OS. Pretty much any stepmania version before 2006 falls into this category, unless you decide to run Parallels or Bootcamp on your mac. Modern versions, such as Stepmania 5 work flawlessly (and that is what I use).

So I went ahead and took the plunge. Not regretting it, really liking the change. Also stepmania does happen to run better on this than my desktop, which is pitiful considering the specs of my desktop.

Nice that it runs smooth, I'm getting a macbook pro with the 27" external display in a few months

I think if I was going to spend obscene amounts of money on a laptop I would probably get this one instead. At least it is capable of high end gaming due to actually having a dedicated graphics card. Although there is a similarly thin MSI gaming laptop for cheaper that has equivalent hardware.

I wouldn't get it either, but at least you can better justify the price since it is actually capable of things.

Kind of how I feel about apple. Although I wouldn't stand by any product simply because of its name brand.

This one looks good though. Much much more powerful than a macbook and $500 dollars less.I'm not sure what the purpose of an expensive laptop is if it isn't going to have a dedicated graphics card for mobile gaming.
                                Buy MSI GS Series - 15.6" FHD - Intel Core i7-4700HQ - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M - 12GB Memory DDR3L 1600 - 128GB SSD - Windows 8.1 (9S7-16H212-007 ) with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!

Just something about $2000 facebook machines is kind of stupid to me.
