Interested in introduction to circuitry/electronics for controller development

I have several controller ideas I want to develop and I want to make them myself, instead of having someone do it for me.

However, I know next to nothing about circuitry/electronics, and I want to fix that. What should I read to get me up to speed?

Make a 4 button iidx style stepmania controller. I would love to see that. I guess it might as well be 6 key for solo.
