    New Desktop PC

Finally finished building my new computer after the heatsink came in today.

Case: Corsair Carbide Series 400R Graphite grey and black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid
    Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155
    Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core
    Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
    Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
    Power Supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3
Boot Drive: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive
    Heatsink: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212

It was just about $800 in total. I thought it was pretty decent for a mid level gaming machine. Although there isn't any game I can't play on max settings at 60 fps so I'm not really sure what anyone would need a more powerful PC for.

Sick build, Izzy. I should really get a desktop too... ~_~

Do I spot USB 3 ports?

I'm really not sure if the front panel ports are usb 3.0 or not. I have 2 of them on the back coming out of my motherboard though. I have a feeling they wouldn't have colored them blue if they weren't 3.0. I probably plugged them into a 2.0 port on my motherboard so whatever.

Sick build. Nice cable work too. Mine, as a friend described it, "looks like an octopus got smashed into a box."

Planning on overclocking with such a beast heatsink?

Possibly. Reviews of the heatsink and of the cpu said it could easily go to 4.0 Ghz. I just can't really see much of a reason too.

I think I deleted the picture but I was trying to get to 100% cpu utilization and I had about 30 large programs open and 10 games and I was at 85%. There is little use in overclocking it other than saying that I overclocked my cpu.

I would have done it if I didn't just buy this heatsink for $30. I already idle at 25-28 C and only get to about 45 under heavy load.

There is definitely a lot that the 560 can't do.

They're USB 3.0 ports. It's actually impossible to plug them into a USB 2.0 header without attaching an adapter beforehand. I don't know if this case has the internal header or passthroughs, though.

What do you have your 2500k OC'd to? I don't recognize that heatsink. Yes I do nevermind.

EDIT: Oh, just read that you haven't overclocked it, and don't have much intention to. I do hope you realize that the 2500 and 2500k are identical other than the fact that the 2500k has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking. If you don't OC then you're wasting the extra 30 bucks (??) you spent on the 2500k.

As far as gaming on a single monitor at 1680x1050 resolution?

I don't know why I'm already forgetting where I plugged things in. I kind of just quickly plugged the connections in to where they fit and spent all my time carefully plugging in the front panel connectors for power, LED and restart buttons. There was some strange plug that I didn't recognize and there was no spot on my motherboard for it so I plugged them into some adapter that it came with. Now that I think about it, it was probably a 3.0 to 2.0 adapter.

                        Edit:

Yea, that is definitely what it was.

It's still sitting at 3.3, Haven't played with the OC settings yet. The lowest setting above 3.3 was 4.0 and that seemed like a pretty big jump.

You really have nothing to worry about there. 4.0 is pretty much what sandybridge CPU's are meant to run at, and with the Hyper 212 you'll be fine for sure. Go for it.

Fixed a bit of cable management and added a 520 gt to get my tv to work with the right hdmi drivers and not have any conflicts. I didn't buy it though, I just happened to have it already.
