So, I took a 3-year "hiatus" from Stepmania and DDR due to lack of interest, but for nostalgia's sake, I decided to come back, because I remember how awesome the communities were. I haven't really been active since '07 or '08, so I have a few random-ish questions.

How many sim artists are still active that were charting back then?

What are some major songpacks that have been recently created? I wonder how much style has changed since I left.

Who are some of the top recognized players? I'm almost certain this has changed. If it hasn't, I'd be kinda shocked.

How many of the old files that were deemed "impossible" have been passed? Or rather, how many absolutely ridiculous passes have there been?

I'm pretty sure that's all I've got right now. By the way, I was dissed11 on SMGroove, D1D on ODI, and Twelve on BlueXoon and RF, if anyone remembers. I'm 18 now and headed off to college in a month, and I used to upload fairly decent scores with a ridiculously high-pitched voice(these have since been deleted). So yeah, what's good?

This forum had died off due to FFR being down for almost a year. Everyone is godly at FFR now and all of the really hard songs have been raped by good players. There's plenty of new songs on here, but I'm afraid the community will never regain a decent status.

I was not happy when FFR was down, I had to wait a year, and everyday I checked to see if it was back up... It wasn't.

seems like a massive exaggeration to me. the numbers have dropped, sure, but these forums are still plenty active.

hmm, stepmania, stepmania... I stopped playing and actively browsing these sites around the same time you did, dissed. I wanna say Thaor was the undisputed heavyweight champ around that time? he's basically disappeared since. AlexDest posted some of the best scores I've ever seen really, but he has apparently hung it up as of about a week ago. Staiain and Dossar are some big names I can think of.

like I said, I've mostly been out of the loop too. I haven't seen many files from the simfilers who were prominent even a few years ago. Patashu still makes a bunch I think, but I can't remember if his files were popular in '07 or whenever. it might be easier if you list the names you can think of so we could try to figure each one out.

vibrating (i.e. holding your fingers over the keys and spazzing your arms as quickly as possible) seems to have fallen in and out of style since I last paid any attention. as such, the conception of which charts are possible to pass has changed quite a bit, I think. again, I can't remember which files were thought of as toughest to pass back when you were around. the average skill level of those who still play consistently has risen dramatically, so it could be quite entertaining to find the answer to your question.

Oh man, Thaor... It really has been a while. Jeez. I think I bowed out that 4 years ago because I was butthurt because my stamina wasn't going up, my MA wasn't moving, and my files always got rejected from packs. I'll browse around and see what some good stuff is now, I saw a lot of stuff I recognized in the scores forums, so it looks like the "benchmark" songs really haven't changed much.
