How Do I Become A Stepfile Artist?

Ok, so just to clear this up, I'm not some random kid that wants to learn how to make songs. The main question I have is where do I make a stepfile and how can I submit it for FFR? Before this site went down awhile back and they had the simfile section, I used to submit my files on here for everyone to download and a lot of people liked them. I would like to create/submit songs for FFR for current users to enjoy as well, so if someone could help me out with this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

There's always BMS. There you can upload files for people to download (though the majority of the files you would find there would be pad-friendly, but you'll always find some decent kb files). Then, you can link it on your sig so that people can know that you've created stepfiles.

That explains everything for submitting to FFR. There was just an easy batch that finished up. The next batch is supposed to be a new artists batch, which means the songs submitted have to be from song artists that don't have any songs in game already. I'm not sure when we are going back to normal batches.

he's referring to the ffr sims section that hosted unchecked files. sad to say but that has been taken down do to copyright violations and server space. like it was suggested you can always check out www.stepmania.com and www.bemanistyle.com to upload your sims though you need to make accounts on both sites to do so.

Wait, for the new artists batch, I thought it was new song artists and new simfile artists, because I was going to submit something by Powerglove.

New song artists, NOT new simfile artists. Songs with old artists will be rejected.

Here's what you need to know, pretty much:

1. You have to make a file; you can use SM or DDream or whatever you like to create them.
2. You submit it to the FFR email for the batch; you have to wait until
a)the batch is open
b)the batch is the right type, if it is a specific batch type
3. The file you made gets judged;
a)accepted, you wait
b)rejected, you fix it and wait to submit it again if you wish

As far as details go for the EXACT process you have to go through, you can find in threads in the batch submission thing.

Submission Rules

If you want to submit files for FFR, please follow those rules. Or your file might be auto-rejected.

1. As an FFR submission, you must use .dwi format for your simfile (.sm file is optional).
2. Your file should be compressed with zip or rar format, and a folder is needed in your zip/rar file.
3. The name of the folder should be songname (username). i.e. [Magical 8bit Tour (jimerax)]. The artist name isn't needed in the folder name (It still needs to be written in the dwi file though).
4. You can only use songs that we have permission, so check it on permission thread before you step/submit.
5. The interval from the beginning to the part you put the first note of the song should be 2 or more seconds. If it's not, insert silence in the beginning of the song (or some notes in the beginning will be cut). If your accepted file doesn't have enough length of silence in the beginning when it's needed, your file will moved to conditional queue. If you don't know how to add silence, refer to this thread.
6. If you only use a part of the mp3 for stepping, cut unnecessary parts of the mp3 to reduce the size of the .swf file.
7. Graphics aren't needed basically. You shouldn't include cdtitles in the submissions but having banners and BGs is ok.
8. Multiple difficulties (only 1 difficulty/1 file allowed), Freezes, Mines, Rolls are NOT allowed, so don't include them in your submissions. If you want to submit multiple difficulties for one song, submit them as separated files.
9. The difficulty should be one of these (Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, Challenge). Don't use Edit.
10. Hands (triples and quads) are allowed, but be careful for not using hands too much (especially on easier songs). There're many players who generally hate hands.
11. You can use any (4th - 192nd) notes, and BPM changes, stops.
12. It should be a simfile that is fun to play for you and others, goes well to the song and captures all its themes and variations and has been confirmed to be on sync on a low music rate.

That's about what you need to know.

^^ Which is why I directed him to that thread. It was already stated that the sim database is gone so I showed him how to get files into the game.

If you read his previous sentences though he's referring to the simfile database and not ffr the game.
