I don't know why I didn't ask this sooner... but... how exactly does the diagonal play format work? like... what keys are you supposed to press? I couldn't even get a boo when I tried it... just a ton of misses
Is this a joke or are you serious about it being a joke? lol
There is no possible reason for playing on diagonal other than to screw around, kind of like using speed mods above times 3.
the only feasible way of playing on diagonal(and do well) is if you've memorized the song in my opinion.
But my question wasn't what was the point of it, it's how do you play it? I couldn't even find the right keys to press, pressing any of the current keys I have setup for regular play (or key combinations with those) didn't even get me a boo, much less a hit.

Last I checked, diagonal scroll doesn't work if you're using above Flash player 9. Also with the changes in the replay system, your scores achieved won't even shown up with diagonal scroll. so much h8 ;__;
But if you do use Flash player 9, it should work fine. (Lower versions would probably work too.) As far as the setup goes, your speedmod has to be at 1. They keys should register at that point, but it will be pretty difficult to play. I suggest mapping your keys like so:
Left input = Up
Down input = Left
Up input = Down
Right input stays the same
Example:
Left = A
Down = S
Up = K
Right = L
With diagonal scroll it's:
Left = K
Down = A
Up = S
Right = L
At least this is how it all worked last time I tried it out, which was before the new replay system came out some months ago.
Oh, and don't listen to dragonmega lmao I was capable of AAAing an FMO using diagonal scroll. My best score on EHHS before I stopped was 5-0-0-0. No memorization needed.
lol nice. That might be my problem to... as I said already, the problem I keep having is I can SEE the song playing, I can see the notes going to places, but no matter what, my keypresses don't go through (hence me saying I don't even get boos) So it might be the flash player... idk, but it was happening since I started in 2008 I'm pretty sure.
mmm... this is weird. lol, so... I guess I DO get boos... but I have no clue what keys I'm supposed to be using o.o; since uhh.... any key I press gets a boo on the same note.
The key mapping is a major hassle to work out with diagonal scroll. You just have to mess with it really. As for it not registering, sometimes it just straight up refuses to allow you to play with certain speed mods. You might have to drop it to 1 to get it to read, I know I had to for a while.
And yeah... idk, I usually play with speedmod set to 1.0 anyway, since my computer is way too laggy to set it higher and not just like miss a few notes due to not even seeing them. >>;
