    Long time player, first post.

Hey, just thought I'd see what the community is like here. I love FFR and was pretty excited to find it online again today.

I decided to check out the FAQ on how to get better and it never even occurred to be that you could play it differently than the arrow keys. I might try the number pad next but it's going to be a hard habit to break. Did anyone find that their play improved by switching keying techniques?

PS my goal is to someday AAA Gradius. Lol

arrow keys are crowded, so it helps immensely to use different keys.

Welcome to the FFR Forums btw Be sure to read all the stickies.
You'll AAA Gradeus in no time

I found my abilities severly improved upon changing styles.

Don't think I could ever AAA fmo's / fgo's with the arrow keys. Spread is definately the way to go.

            Also, welcome to the forums!

You actually have a better chance AAA'ing Gradeus playing index as opposed to spread. But definitely start playing spread. Also good luck with your goal

Welcome! And to answer your question, I prefer spread, ever since I switched I was able to get higher scores and more AAA's. However, I have seen people who are much better at playing one hand, or with the arrow keys, so go with whatever is easier for you.

Welcome. Using the arrow keys is actually helpful for some songs, but nowadays many songs are near impossible to do well with the arrow keys. I used to play index a lot, and FC'd some VCs but when I switched to spread (askl) I got much better.

Any keys that consist on a "line/crooked" setup, using four of your fingers (left and right index and middle fingers, more specifically). Examples: ASKL, DFJK, QWOP, QSLP, WDKO, EFJI. I personally use EFJI, which is a comfortable setup, at least for me. For a more detailed explanation, check this thread.
