    My, what funny looking arrows!

    Hey guise.

Since my signing up for the FFR forums, I've been thinking about playing FFR. Up until now I've only played Stepmania. It's what my only other thread (or post for that matter) is about. (give it a look)

Let me count my history with FFR... let's see, I've played it maybe 5 times while dicking around at school. That's about it. Since then, my mindset is still the same: it looks pretty complicated. Stats, tokens, challenges, countless features on the site, it seems like quite a bit. Will it take note of every score I get, down to the last E I tried to quit out of? Do I need to participate in tournaments to get everything? Have I lost an edge already for missing the previous ones? Yikes...

Throw me a bone here, guys. Convince me to get down with this game we call FFR?

    Tier Points
    AAA
    Full Combo
    Skill Token

That's the only thing that really matters I guess

Just think of it as a way of getting your SM scores being recognized / honored upon / counted upon

Those countless times you played SM without taking a screenshot.. where did it contribute to? Nowhere
But when you play FFR, it will always contribute to SOMETHING. Whether it be AAA, Tier Points, Full Combos, Skill Tokens, Grand Total, etc

And FFR has a good community (compared to ODI?)

      lol ODI
FFR is a has a very competitive community and system. Whenever you get a score, you get a ranking. Lots of the features enhance the "competitive-ness" of the game. Other things, like the simfile database are for StepMania, a game that you're familiar with already. Don't worry about not getting the features... It takes time.
      Epic title, too.

You only need to participate in a tournament if you want Vertex BETA vROFL which is the hardest song in the game, but quite a dump.

The main reason I stay on FFR is because of the community and because I'm good at it. So get good and make friends (you can achieve task A by performing task B.) Basically, if you don't have any friends, you won't be motivated to do better... soooo.. Hi, I'm rushy, what's your name?! =D.

It's only time consuming for those people who spend alot of time trying to AAA files, especially the easy ones. I do, however, know of a couple people who don't even bother with those songs and go for the harder songs, it's all completely up to you. Nonetheless we hope to see you around here more often!

Re: My, what funny looking arrows!

Honestly to me... FFR is and always will be a Community. ppl talk, play, make new friends... which all but one of those you cant do on SM... There is no interaction on SM... with the acception of the website. But, playing FFR brings ppl together. whether just friendly playing, or extreme competition. No matter what. in the long run. you'll think. "Geez..., why didn't i play this in the first place?!..."
And Along with OneHandNow.... AAAs, Full Combos, LVL ranks, Tier Points, all that good stuff. just makes you want to keep improving your skill untill you're amongst the top players. and who knows. Maybe untill you are the top player.. but all of that takes time. Time in which you must play the game.

Once you start playing and making friends this place will feel like a second home. Whether you are competitive or not, FFR has everything to satisfy what Stepmania lacks. Probably the best thing about FFR is the community, once you start posting in forums and talking to people, you'll fit right in. And most importantly, Have Fun!

I'd say the best avenue to persue as a newbie would be Full Combo and Achievement Tokens

Thanks guys, I'm just diving headfirst into this now so hopefully I'll pick up everything I need to know along the way.

Although it is frustrating when I choose a too fast/too slow speed or just plain mess up and then can't quit out. But what can you do I suppose :s

You can quit out, just hold down two keys
Also you should really only be using one speedmod once you've figured out the fastest one you can handle, for most people it's between 1.75x and 2.0x

You can go to Settings and set an Auto-Fail value that automatically ends the game when whichever specified value is met. So if you want to FC a song then you would set the auto-fail for "miss" to 1. For a AAA, if it's a really hard song, you probably won't want to have an autofail on because you can still get top scores with a few messups, but you can just set a higher autofail value for that.
