It is the level you attain by beating people in multiplayer matches. No one cares about it. It's to easy to boost. I'm currently a 17, Just from playing a few friends. Honestly I shouldn't have passed 16,

Just to give the OP a better understanding:

Your MP level determines how good your play has been against other players. Aside from the obvious win to gain level, you also have to be within 8 levels of your opponent to actually gain anything (preventing extremely high level players to feed off of very new players, with exception of alternate accounts, see below).

Some people like to create alternate accounts--they have an account that has a much higher level and they disguise themselves to attract lower players to be their victims.
