The best thing that I could say is pick the highest speed you can read and still hit the arrows, to the point of it being uncomfortable. You should be getting a lot of goods with this speed because you are relying on reflex. Once you find that speed, move your speed mod over to the left one notch in the settings menu (if 2x, then 1.75, if 1.75, then 1.5, etc).

this is actually an awesome tip. . .and really works very well.
you do a song or two at a speed that's just slightly too fast for you, then slow the speed back down to a speed you're more comfortable with, and all the sudden things are soooo much easier to read and hit.
      great tip there
      thnx.

        Hey, no problem. =D

This is actually the way that I combat mindblocks (that is, when you have an exact way to do one section, every time, but it's the wrong way). I normally play on 1.5x, but when I catch a mindblock, I play a few games on 2.0x, and then get the score I need to get on 1.75x. That's actually how I unintentionally got an AAA on Reality. XD

What's interesting about the above tip is that it works in reverse for me. If I play Stepmania for a while on C640 and then switch to FFR with a 2.0 mod, the slightly faster 2.0 mod allows me to read arrows better. Lowering speed mods always results in worse PA for me.

Ah, I see. I can't quite pull something like that, just simply switching from the SM to FFR noteskin messes me up.
