I am quite new and can now play at the standard level...however i would like tips on how to bridge the gap between standard and difficult....THANKS

Yes, I had that problem too. Practice on ALL the standard songs you see in dance. They will help you with a lot of that bridging. There is enought variety in them that it can help can help.

Once you finish that, go for these songs next:
Dance:
Massive
Emotions
Arcade:
Crystalis
Megaman goes clubbing
Bubbleman
Final Fantasy
Secret:
La Luna Caida
Burnout
Secret Zombie room

Work with those and that should help.
