    simfile question

Recently my keyboard decided to not let me use my up arrow. I then decided to start playing stepmania and wanted to play some of my favorite songs from ffr so I downloaded some simfiles. Shortly after I realized the steps were very different some were at level 8, 9, or 10 on ffr and when I played these they were way harder, absurd even. Is there any way I can get a version with the ffr steps?

    Re: simfile question

Stepmania and FFR is different in many ways. Songs you find in FFR will most likely be difficult to obtain. There may be variations of the same song you find on FFR, populated in the FFR simfile database and other sites. The reason for some songs being much more difficult than the file in FFR, is because Stepmania is open to everybody. FFR requires judges to analyse your song and see if it is worthy to be placed on FFR, while Stepmania can be packed with songs from anybody.

The only way you can get a song with the same steps as FFR, is to either hope for the best that there is one available for upload, talk to the stepfile artist or create it yourself.

As a solution to your key problem, you may use the Key Configuration in Stepmania, or use the provided key configuration slots on FFR, located in the Settings beside the songwheel.

      Re: simfile question

ok thanks for that but how would one go about contacting the stepfile artist because it would be very bifficult too recreate the steps.

also now that I hink about it you would think other people would have this complaint so wouldn't they put some sort of place in the simfile database were you could download the ffr version?

and as for reconfiguring the arrows that happened before you you could in ffr I think and that is why I went to stepmania well that and the various amouts of internet down time.

        Re: simfile question

The idea is that simfiles on ffr are exclusive for ffr. (It's not true for all of them, of course; you could probably find arch0wl's files if you snooped hard enough)

They won't be released publicly because they're not supposed to be.

          Re: simfile question

I'll occassionally go through my SM packs and find songs that are very similar to songs on FFR, though even these have small differences. Though SM has quite a large library, im sure you can find something of your caliber in there.
