    Standard songs arent standard

I've played a couple standard songs and every single one is harder then a tricky song i thought tricky was a harder difficulty? Also whenever i play a long song you guys rate it higher then it should be the steps are easier then some of the shorter lower rated songs. i don't understand why this happens.

I can See the Light. rated standard in dance- not a easy song especially in the middle lots of random notes very fast. easier song -My darkest hour ranked tricky(this song had a solo in it in the song i think but it never came in the steps=)) My darkest hour is so easy a person that plays easy could do it probably long spaces in the song make it not even close to tricky.(if they mash 2 arrows on the parts where you have to hit up and left repeatedly it can be done)

there are many factors that go into the ratings of songs.... i'm not sure what you're looking at with ratings. passing a song plays little to no factor in the ratings of songs. the most important factors are how hard it is to full combo and how hard it is to AAA. Length also does play a factor, moreso in easier songs.

i'd have to go back and look at the specific songs you listed to explain the reasoning...

ICSTL is 138bpm and has 8 measures of 16th triplets. other than that, it is all 8th notes, which would put it in the 4 difficulty range (standard = 5, tricky = 6). It is also 2:10 long. My Darkest Hour hour varies between 103bpm for parts and 207bpm for parts (aka, the bpm doubles in sections). 8th stream at 207bpm is MUCH harder than anything in ICSTL, to combo consistently, plus some non-standard syncopation at the 103bpm spots. It is also 3:30 long.

Finally... there is a sticky in FFR General Talk for all discussions related to difficulty ratings of songs. If you have issues with specific songs ratings, please do it there. And please use specific information relating to the song in your reasoning as to why you feel it is incorrect.

I generally think Tass's difficulty ratings are spot on. Sometimes I think it's a little iffy around the lower difficulties, but they all kinda blend together anyways.

My Darkest Hour is generally a harder file than I Can See the Light. Like Tass said, it's faster and the steps are harder. ICSTL may have little 16th's, but don't let yourself associate yellow with harder files. The 4th notes (red) on Reality is about equivalent to 8th notes (blue) on most songs and 16th notes (yellow) on some songs. Speed Limit 38 is one of the slowest and easiest files FFR has and it's full of greens which are supposed to be uber fast.

rushy: speed limit 38 isn't "one of the easiest"... it is, however, the lowest bpm song in FFR, in terms of "normal" bpm for the song. there are songs with small sections of lower bpms, but nothing that is close to that for the majority of the file. also, 38bpm 64ths = 152bpm 16ths, so the stream isn't THAT slow.

but, yea... I try to make my difficulties as accurate as possible. I may make mistakes more often on the easier files, because all the easy files are REALLY easy for me... makes it harder to judge. But if I'm ever unsure, I make sure to ask other people who I trust for their opinions, to verify that I'm right... or to change it if they feel I'm wrong. AND... even when I'm wrong, I'm usually not... like, if I list a file as an 8, but everyone feels it's a 9... I almost always will wind up asking people, "do you think this is a high 8 or a low 9?", and in the end, different files are harder for different people... it is subjective, and not everyone will agree with every rating. The goal, like with anything, is to make the majority of the people happy a majority of the time.
