You need Stepmania which can be downloaded at stepmania.com
Then you can edit songs on the program.
Adding arrows and such is pretty self explanatory

Hello welcome to the forums, here is just a basic view on inserting new songs for Stepmania: First you need to download and install Stepmania from
After that, go to Start> all programs> stepmania> stepmania tools and package exporter> create song> *browse for song file*> okay. Note that only mp3 and ogg music files are recommended.
Finally to add steps, load up Stepmania and use the edit/sync songs mode in the main menu. Your song should be located in "my creations" folder. Once inside the editor, use the F1 button to view the quick controls for the Stepmaina editor.
To insert arrows, use the 1,2,3 and 4 buttons. The arrow keys are used to navigate throughout the measures of the song. Also, it is best to have a BPM analyzer since Stepmania doesn't do that for you. Having the correct BPM for a song is the first step in creating a good simfile. The one Fox posted is VERY GOOD for later, when learning how to make a better simfile, so keep that thread in mind, FrEak! But first read this one to learn the basics of making a file, and remember to tinker with the Step Editor a little (F1 for helpful hotkeys, too).
You don't need to use the package exporter, but if you do use that instead of the song/folder/notepad method in that thread, it's located in C:\Program Files\StepMania\Program (if you installed Stepmania in the default directory). You're looking for "smpackage.exe".Have a pad simfile that you're proud of? Send it to:
