There are two kinds of token.

Tokens are hidden throughout the site, and finding and clicking on them will get you the token and unlock a song in the "token" genre. It is against the rules to tell people where to find any of the tokens, but you can see a list here with links to all of the official clues that the administration have given out to locate them.

Skill Tokens are gained by meeting various skill requirements on songs. All you need to do to unlock the token is complete the requirement, and there will be a new skill token on your profile and a new song in the "Skill Tokens" genre. A complete list of skill tokens and their requirements can be found here.
