Re: how to make simfiles.
Install StepMania from the StepMania website (the URL is simple to figure out).
Then, once it is installed, find the .mp3 or .ogg file that you want to use for your song/steps.
Next, you go to the StepMania Package and Tools Exporter (located in the StepMania section of the "Start menu") and click on the "Create Song" button and open your .mp3 or .ogg file.
Once it says that your song has been created, open up StepMania and go to Edit/Sync songs (using arrow keys, you can't use the mouse), and choose the song that you want to work on and what section it is. If it is a song that you have created using the StepMania Tools and Packages Exporter, then it will be under My Creations.
Choose the difficulty of your song at the main menu of the editing screen. Go down to difficulty and change it to whatever you want (Beginner, Easy, Medium, Hard, Challenge) Then change the source difficulty to the same thing (if you downloaded the file and wish to change it, make the source difficulty whatever it was on the SimFile DB and change the difficulty to what you want it to be - Beginner=1, Easy/Light=2, Medium/Standard=3, Hard/Heavy=4, Challenging/Challenge=5. So if it was 1, change your source difficulty to Beginner, and same with the others, following the numbers.
Once you are in the editing screen, the editing process begins.
Change the BPM of the song using the F7 (slower) and F8 (faster) buttons. Most songs are generally around 170. I think that there is a website for people to check the BPM of the song.
Then, after the BPM is set, you are ready to make your steps.
First, if you want to put in steps at the beginning of the song (first beat), put a 2 second Beat 0 Offeset. Press F12 to increase and F11 to decrease. Look on the rights side of the editing screen and you will see a current second modifier (top) and a Beat 0 Offset modifier (bottom). When you have a 2 second Beat 0 Offset, your Current Second mod will say -2.000 and your Beat 0 Offset mod will say 2.000
If you don't put 2 seconds of silence at the beginning of your file, the beginning steps will be cut off.
So, you are now ready to make steps!
Here are the instructions for making your file:
1 - Insert left arrow
2 - Insert down arrow
3 - Insert up arrow
4 - Insert right arrow
Right/Left arrow button outside of practicing song - changes the notes speed (4th notes, 8th notes, 12th notes, 16th notes, etc.)
Ctrl+P - Play song/steps from the beginning (song will stop where steps end)
Shift+P - Play song from current beat (song will stop where steps end)
Return key (Enter) - Shows a whole bunch of stuff you don't need
Esc key - shows the stuff you do need
Save - saves the steps and song as a .sm and .dwi file
Edit Song Info - Edits song info (You can only do each part one at a time, but you only need to do Main Title (song name), Artist, and Credit (insert your username). You can only do each one at a time, but it doesn't take that long. (Remember that you can't use the mouse in the StepMania program.)
Once you are done, do the following:
My Computer --> Local Disc (C) --> Program Files --> StepMania
--> Songs --> My Creations
Once you are in My Creations, copy the Folder (with the contents inside of it) and paste it onto the Desktop.
From here, you open WinZip, and drop the folder into the WinZip program. Once your zip folder has been made, name your folder. Go to the end of the file link and put in (name of your song).zip
Now, you open up FFR and go to the SimFile DB, and click the upload button, and then put in your songs information. Upload your .zip file (click the browse button and search for wherever you put that .zip file on your computer.
Once your .zip is uploaded, you are finished.
If you are planning on making a file for FFR R1, you must make sure of the following:
There are no freezes
(BPM changes are now ok, for FFR R1 only)
Your .zip file is named: "song name (FFR username)" [don't take that literally, or your file will not be accepted.
The folder inside your .zip file is called "song name (FFR username)"
There are no stops.
It is your own file.
You have legal approval for this file (refer to the Artist Blanket Permissions v2 thread in the FFR Permissions Subforum (FFR General Talk at the top of forum screen.)
Once that is made sure of, send the .zip file to [email protected]
He will judge your file and tell you whether or not it will get into FFR R1 or not. If not, either improve it for next time, or put it in the SimFile DB. He will give you constructive criticism for you to know how to make your file better. Read more on making stepfiles for FFR R1 in the Simulator files thread.
For making a file just for Resonance, make sure of the following:
There are no stops or BPM changes
You, yourself made the file.
It is not an official Konami or Roxor stepfile (steps that are not copied)
That you have the .zip file containing the .sm, .dwi, and .mp3 files.
Once again, that it is your own file, not someone else's.
That's about it. Have a great time!
Also, check out me simfiles so you can see how I started with my first three. Just go to my FFR profile and click and play each of the stepfiles that I made, so you can see how you might start off with your first few files.
Other than that, enjoy your time with simfiles.Last edited by KH Luxord; 08-14-2007, 12:18 PM.
