Steps: (Ask about any of these if you don't know how)
Start FFR
Click on Multiplayer
Click on the Green circle that just appeared
Create or join a room
If you created one, wait for an opponent
Mutually choose the same song as your opponent

This will play a game, you versus your opponent. Your level will go down if you lose against an opponent close (±9) to your level, or up if you win. Beating someone dramatically lower than you won't give much, and won't take much from them. Losing to someone dramatically lower than you will take a lot from you, and give them a lot.
