What's Sight Reading?

I've checked the stickies and run a search, but couldn't find any definition of the term. I've seen it being used a couple of times and it's aroused my curiosity.

Please enlighten me. And I'm sorry if I haven't looked hard enough and you're just going to point me to some sticky I blatantly missed.

Sightreading is reading an FFR or SM song without having done it previously.

Like my MoG and Fant FC's, were my first time playing the song.

A sightread AAA is one done on the first try.

there are actually 2 different definitions for the term Sight Read.

1 is what Vishnal said... playing it for the very first time. most people need a few runs through a song to semi-memorize the location of certain arrows and/or master the beat of the song. so being able to PWN a crazy score out on your first run on a song is considered more impressive.

the other definition is to play with no music. aka, you're only playing the game by sight.

sometimes it helps to sight read, by second definition. Iunno why, but it helps with AAAs.

Maybe it gives your sense of sight a perk when you don't have to hear. My opinion is that you primarily need your eyes to play this game and less the ears (You know what I mean, so I don't wanna hear any "No **** Sherlock"'s), so when you play with both eyes and ears, part of your visual concentration is thrown away.

Please tell me if you don't understand this.

Thanks for the prompt responses. ^^ Wouldn't the term be a good addition to the newbie dictionary? I've been here for a while and haven't had any idea on what it meant up until now.

Seriosly, whats not to get? It's such a simple term. Look at Tass' post, he explains it well
