    Question!!! AHHHH.

First of all, are people that play DDR good at FFR or vice versa? I'm getting DDR for PS2 this Christmas, and I was wondering if FFR is helping at all. First of all, I SUCK at DDR. I mean, I can't do the majority of Light songs. Yeah, I'm really, really, really bad. But I was wondering, is FFR helping at all, or is it doing more harm than good? Oh, and another thing, when people get too good for FFR, do they go on and play StepMania or something like that? I've heard people who go, "23098234309 ON UBER RAVE" and then somebody tells them to go play StepMania. Just curious about a few things

First question. In the long run, its not hurting you, and its not helping you that much. It's probably helping as far as getting the general beats down, and making subliminal mental notes about timing and such, but when you actually get on the pad its a lot harder than you'd think it would be. But just like FFR and SM, the more you practice, the better you'll get. Also, stick with it...DDR can be very intimidating at first.

About SM compared to FFR, SM players generally get more respect for their skills because SM is much harder, and its also much more onbeat. Also, you can't button mash your way through songs like you can with FFR (i.e. FOTBB). Many players (including me) prefer SM to FFR. On the flip side, SM is much easier to FC and AAA songs because its so much more onbeat. Kind of a matter of personal preference...back when I sucked, I liked FFR better, now I like SM better.

Yes! Thanks much. I was asking because I went to the mall the other day with a friend (we both play FFR) and we thought that we were worse than we were the first time we played. Oh and...

I don't think you could be more right. I was playing Para Para and this guy got up to DDR, hit lots of buttons and then started to play. I don't know if it was me or not, but it looked like this one giant block of arrows/ I'm wondering, how in the hell are people that good? It seems physically impossible! And I had another question I just thought of. I see people use that bar on the back of the machines. Because I (obviously) don't have one at home, will that really matter? My goal is to get good enough at DDR so as not to be humiliated and laughed at when I play the arcade.

Personally, I never used the bar anyway. But playing DDR at home will really help you. I used to be in the same position you were, then I got DDRMAX, played every day for 2 months (until the damn pads crapped out on me), and now I'm pretty good.

Yeah, the pads. I know they come with those little flimsy things, and I know that I want a better one, but when's a good time to get it? I'm thinking about maybe a Red Octane foam one, and then a metal/plastic one from RO or CobaltFlux. I know that as a begginner it's going to make crap difference, but I was just wondering if there were some "milestones" I didn't know about or anything.

everytime i get a pad, it lasts about 2 weeks, at best -.- i'm looking into investing in a metal pad, but until you get around standard or like level 7+ you probably wont need more than 1 or 2 replacement pads. I just trash mine by playing stuff like Max 300 and Matsuri Japan. Also, i never use the bar, i think that'd mess me up; part of the beauty of DDR is being able to hit all the arrows and keep your balance at the same time (in my opinion anyway). And about all those insane dudes at the arcades, they've worked really hard, and want nothing mroe than to show off, lol, don't worry, if you play enough you can be just as good if not better. I kno cuz I used to be that dude too, sittign there going "hey, that's not even possible, he's a demon, kill him." And one last thing, playing FFR or SM can help you get arrow-comprehension as well; you're not going to be able to do any of the really insane songs if you can't tell which arrow to hit, and playing any DDR-type game can imporve arrow-comprehension......I'm done =D

First question depends on how good you are at ffr or ddr. if you suck at one it is a disadvantage to the other
