You use left and right and 6 and 8 on the numberpad.

Would using autohotkey to play with the A, S, K, and L keys be considered spread, too?

On stepmania, I use A S K L.
I don't spread on FFR; I index.

Spread is the best. It's played by left and down arrows on left hand and 6 and 8 on the number pad with your right. It's faster, your fingers never have to shift, and you're guaranteed better scores. I play spread now after starting out one hand. I've also played two hands with three fingers, but spread is still better. It will make you improve WORLDS once you get comfortable with it.

Stepmania spread is better: you can customize it.
I feel comfortable playing A S K L.
I don't have a number pad, so I can't say much about the ffr spread method.

yeah a, s, k, l, i think is the best for spread it feels comfortable
