If by fun, you mean spam fest, and by express themselves you mean spam like banshees, then yes, those are very legitimate reasons.

Forums are not chat rooms. People have more than enough time to think out full, coherent, and spellchecked sentences instead of "tlking liek this, do u talk liek this in rl?? no???, i dint think soo". With that time you should do so; use complete sentences and words.

It all comes down to netiquette and what is acceptible.
