Newbie... kinda?

Well... yeah my friend showed me this game EXACTLY 3 years ago (yep my 3-year anniversary is today) and I played it off and on in my spare time.. not a a whole lot, because I've found it effects my Halo 2 game... I'm actually a professional Halo 2 player, I attend national and international events every month and consistantly place in the top 5 players in FFA (Free for All). Well enough about my Halo life... I've been playing this game alot more recently (FFR) and I consider myself to be pretty good I guess? Until I got completely schooled by one of my halo friends that has played StepMania for years.. He told me he plays with 2 hands. I only play with one hand and 3 fingers. And... I was just wondering.. since I'm very used to playing with 3 fingers (I can FC alot of Very Difficult songs)... But would it be worth it to start playing with 2 hands? Like, I don't know how easy it would be to adjust for me but should I try to? It seems like a huge advantage. But after 3 whole years of using one hand, I don't know if I could adjust.

If you want to be able to get better scores in FFR/SM, you'll have to switch to two hands.

But if you find it too uncomfortable, you can stick with 1 if you want. It's up to you. Just remember that 1-handers are at a pretty big disadvantage.

Alright.. Yeah I think I'll switch to 2 hands... but when using 2 hands, what is the best way to do it? Like which fingers on which arrows?

Also, if someone could help me get started playing StepMania I would appreciate that. Like where/how to download it and it's mixes.

Well, I play 2 handed but I think I play a lot differently then most people (well my fingers are kind of weird). My right ring finger is on the left arrow, my right middle finger is on the up arrow, left index on down, and left middle on right. I like my stlye because then you can switch your hand positions to do the trills or crossovers relatively easy.
For stepmania, download the client at http://www.stepmania.com

For song packs, I used http://sweetsims.co.nr/
Click "download SS packs"

Thanks but... the way you described your fingers... is like the single most awkward hand position you can possibly make O_O

Maybe you mixed your right and left?

EDIT: I've downloaded StepMania... now I just go to that site and download every single "SS Pack" style thing?

Download everything you either want or need. Packs can have songs, announcers, themes, and banners. You can also download stuff separately. welcome to the FFR community.

Oh whoops! I did mix up my hands =/ Sorry about that. My right ring finger is on the RIGHT arrow, right middle finger on the UP arrow, left middle finger on the LEFT arrow, and my left index finger on the DOWN arrow. So sorry about that =/

Well I'm almost done downloading the 1st Song Style thing... (Yeah I have bad interent)

And once it's done, do I just launch StepMania and I'll be able to play the songs?

I play almost the exact same way. I just have my right index on the up arrow.

Well, what you do is you uncompress the file. Wherever you have the file saved, right click and select "extract files" and extract them into the song folder of stepmania. I SS'ed if for you.
extract files to---->C: Drive->Program files-->stepmania-->songs

You must have WinRar in order to extract the files.
