Okay I'm pretty sure this has been asked before but I don't realllly want to look high and low lol.. I just check the forum for somethigin liek this every day or so to see if something like this has been brought up but not that I've seen...so here goes..

How do you make stepfiles for songs? I want to play the Mortal Kombat Theme 'cause I personally think it is a crazy song and there is not enough arcade songs in my opinion. I find them to be most fun...

So... instead of breaking rules asking someone to make a stepfile... how do you do it? If I can make it and get permission, I'd like to try.

I'm not sure how you make a stepfile for the flash version of FFR, (although it would probably have to be very well done for them to accept it) but it's easy to make one for downloaded FFR / Stepmania / Dance with intensity.

First, you have to find the Beats Per Minute of the song you want to make. This is critical, because the arrows that you put in the song will snap to the beat of the BPM you enter. If your BPM is off, your arrows will go offbeat. There are numerous programs or winamp plugins you can use to estimate the bpm by tapping a key on the keyboard for every beat, and the program will calculate the average bpm. The longer you do it, the more accurate it'd be. You can also do this without a program if you just do the calculations yourself.

After that, there's two ways you can make a stepfile: You can make it in a text file using weird and confusing numbers, or you can use a stepfile editor like the one that comes with stepmania. After that, just follow the instructions in the program; it's pretty straightforward. But it is difficult, and it takes time to make a good stepfile.
