Decreasing Song Length

I have this song I am doing and its only 59 seconds long. I used a DWI file of Tsugaru 180 which is around a minute and a half. How do I decrease the song length as in beat wise.

When I play the song and I finish the last note it does not cut off and go to the score display, it just keeps going and does not stop. Can someone help me?

There are two possible alternate solutions, but both are probably either not what you're looking for or were too obvious to think about.

1) Increase the length of your song to match the length of the DWI file.
2) Decrease the length of the DWI file until it's 59 seconds long. Do like journalists do and cut from the bottom until it's at the right length.

How do you decrease the length of the DWI file. Do I have to go into notepad and edit it to make it the right length?

What I had in mind was that you go into some sort of stepfile editor (the DWI site has a program available for download called XStep you could probably use) and just cut out steps. However, I know jack about making stepfiles...maybe I should try it sometime, though.

Is there some way to do it in the editing system of SMMAX or Notepad?

highlight everything after 59 seconds and hit delete in the SM editor

Just make a DWI from scratch; copying another DWI and modifying it is probably what is causing you problems. Just create a new text file, and rename it to song.dwi instead of song.txt and put in the essential headers (song name, bpm, etc: you can find a sticky in hte stepmania or simfile section that lists what you need to have to begin with) and that should do it.
