    A noob or not a noob ??

    Hey all
Wasn't sure where to put this (again) but thought it would be most useful here as it is related to noobs.
So i have been pondering the last few days on what eactly is a noob (yes i lead a very sad and lonely life). Everyone knows that you are definitly a noob for the first few days you are on FFR, but what happens after that? There are so many ways of looking at it. Some people think that if you have been playing FFR for a long time but never used forums and then decided to start posting messages, you are a noob, some may not think so. There are no clear cut ways of telling if you are still a noob or not. Maybe some people stay noobs forever because they don't really get to know people on the site and so don't feel they are part of the community as such.

The way i see it there are so many different ways of deciding if you are a noob or not... like the number of posts you have, or the level of difficulty you can play in FFR. Maybe it is a personal thing and you are only a noob as long as you feel like one. But i think the most likely option is that you are a noob to begin with, when you first introduce yourself and then for a while you stay pretty quiet and unseen, just putting in a quick comment here and there, until finally you start to be recognised by people and have pretty decent competitive scores in FFR at which point you are pretty much an old timer.
That only leaves the problem of what is in the middle. Maybe I'm just thinking too much into it. But would love to know what others think on the noob subject.

On second thoughts maybe this should have gone in the critical thinking forum... but it isn't very critical thinking really and as i still consider myself a noob i feel that i have the right to post stuff in the noob forum (especially seeing as it is about noobs !!)

I would say you're a newb until you imburse yourself into the FFR community and become a regular poster. Aswell, ability at FFR helps too I guess.

A n00b is prety much a newb, which is a newbie, which is a person who is new to something. So you're pretty much a n00b until every one is used to seeing your posts, and like evilpeer said, imbursed into the FFR Community.

you're sure one to talk. Angel-D, take a look at all of emccky's posts if you have the time: avoid posting the way he does and you will NOT be a postwhore. Postwhoring is one of the biggest 'n00b' things you can possibly do I guess.

As for what is and isn't considered to be a n00b...there's really no cut off. Just post intelligently (I can tell you actually have a brain compared to a lot of other n00bs...heh.) and try not to get into any flamewars =\

oh and btw, welcome to ffr!

Newb is affectionate, n00b is derogatory. Typically, at least.

            Welcome.

well i think some ppl might consider me a noob but im really not because the only 3 forums i am ever on are : noob, challenges, and general talk and i do post like 10 or 12 times a week now because for the first 2 weeks i didnt even know there was a forum and i am good at the game (maybe because i am a regular DDR player) so i would say im semi-noob

You are a n00b based on how much you know about the subject. If someone knew everything about FFR but never played it once I no one would call them a n00b.

                  Ok here's how it works.

A noob is a person who acts retarted, cant insult at all (example
Me: You're a flesh eating penis corpse
                  Noob: Fuck u)

Also, noobs can NEVER back anything up. You could've joined in 02 and still be a noob.

                  Newb

A newb is a newcomer to a site, someone who has never been there before. Newb's are cooler than noobs, and if you're a newb then you're respected by some of the more veteran members. The way to be a newb, (only newcomers can be newbs, but anyone can be a noob (see bullet bill)) is just be cool. Post real stuff, dont ask stupid questions and READ THE STICKIES

It's easier to go from newb to vetran than noob to vetran.

Sorry hydrogakep. I thought it was a perfectly valid topic and just wanted to know other peoples opinions on it. If what you say is true and a noob is such a terrible thing then isn't it a little unfair that this forum is named NOOB and not NEWB.
However to clarify, what i meant in my first post is - what makes someone a newb and when do they stop being one ? Because it doesn't seem possible to go from being a newb to a veteran suddenly so was curiouse to know what other people thought came inbetween and what defines someone as being one or the other or something inbetween.
Sorry if my question came across wrong or i got mixed up with how people use the terms noob and newb which caused confusion, i'v just always heard them used interchangably. I was curious about what people thought is all.

p.s i have read the stickies, but didn't want definitions but personal opinions.

n00b is synonymous to newb. Some people say otherwise but it doesn't really matter.

My way of "n00b or not" is post count. The more, the better. If you're post whoring, it's just a waste of what would be experience if you were actually paying attention to the subject at hand.

Well I know I'd be considered a newb because I haven't even looked at the forums sence I started playing FFR, though today I thought, man, I really should get involved with the community, because I am everywhere else I go, but here for some reason I just come in, play, and leave, so today I was exploring the whole site and decided to start posting....Though I'm not considered good at FFR I'm not still working on passing Trip to the Moon Club...heh...

I wouldn't be considered a noob in any sense of the word. Newb, yes. Although I have been playing FFR/DDR/SM for a while now and I'm very good, I haven't been involved in the community much, but I'm trying to post at least 5-6 times a day.
