It means you're not ranked (yet). They use 1 as a place holder, though why that and not something else, I'm not sure.
Essentially retired now, but still ranked on the list of FFR's Top One Handers.

Yeah, I mentioned this in the suggestion forum, too. Using 1 is causing quite a bit of confusion among new players, myself included. I thought maybe the ranking system went backwards because I knew I wasn't 1st. Using 0 to imply no rank or something big, well beyond the lowest recognized rank, might be better.
