At least you can do standard. Those are still too hard for me. As for getting better, I think the only answer is practice. You might want to try playing StepMania; I've see a few posts from people saying practicing with that is a good way to help improve your skill.

Another DDR style game that you can download and install. It doesn't work for me though so I use Dance With Intensity instead. Both games have their own forums here on the board so you can check them if you want more information.

stepmania definitely helped me with FFR, though i can't quite figure out why...it's basically the same exact thing. I guess that's why, eh? It all adds up to practice. My favorite so far is most definitely Sakura, from DDR 8th Mix Extreme...i can almost FC it on "Standard" there...i think it's a 7-footer.

There are a few "For Beginner" level songs that are (or should be) the easiest levels on the site. Look for them and give them a try if the "Very Easy" ones are too hard right now. Just practice in general should be the way to improve. Using a simulator like SM or DWI can give you more practice and on different songs and patterns than here; you can download as many songs and stuff as you can find if you want. In the end though, I think to get better *here* you have to play and practice here. As for how long you need to practice, umm, as long as it takes? There's no set answer. You may get the hang of it very quickly and improve very fast or it may take a while. We don't know how it will go for you. If you keep playing though, you should get better at it. I find that some songs do get easier as I become more familiar with the music and arrow patterns because I can start to anticipate when the general flow or pattern is going to change so I can be more ready for it. Good luck.
