Im pretty sure the max is 25. Challenges are a good way to get credits in large amounts. I find breaking the common is an easy way to get credits. I can get 17 per song. But if you arent good enough for that just find a song that you can get a high max combo on and take off with it.

Max Credits = 25 for a total score on a song of 1,500,000. 24 credits for anything over 1,200,000

5 Credits is not the best you can get on a song.

The best songs for getting fast credits for beginner or average players are:

Boss Machine (17 credit full combo)
      4F73R M3 (24 credit near full combo)
Final Fantasy 7 Battle (24 credit full combo)
Breaking the Common (17 credit full combo)
(Easy) Raindrops (14 credit full combo)

As of right now, yes, the songs in the shop and challenges are the only things you can use credits for.

I think I tried Raindrops because I saw it listed here as a good one to try. It looks like it's still a bit above my skill though. I can do OK through the beginning, but I don't think I'm usually getting the full combo. However, somewhere towards the end when that faster run shows up, I totally blow it every time. I simply can't keep up with it. I guess I need more practice on some easier songs first to build up some skill.

Terror from beyond was a good song for me when I couldn't do Tricky+ songs, you can get a nice combo and there isnt any tricky sequences.

Which according to the notes I made are Tricky, Challenging, Difficult, Difficult, and Easy. Four out of five are above/harder than Standard level. What's your definition of a beginner or average player? I guess I can work on Raindrops and maybe try Terror from Beyond which was just suggested. I have enough trouble on the easy levels; I don't think I can do Standard or up yet.

The reason I think that Boss Machine, FF7 theme, and 4F73R M3 are rated high is because they have difficult parts but I find that if you can "get in the groove" they're not all that hard. Boss Machine is one of my fav levels too and if you play that one, the yellow(I think they're yellow, I forget) arrows get you more bar back. If you get to a hard section, i like to concentrate on 3 of 4 arrows and let the 4th go by, it tones it down and you don't lose that much bar...

If you hit 3/4 you should not lose any bar at all eh?

Just for fun I gave Boss Machine a try despite its higher difficulty level. I couldn't even get past the opening sequence(s). Too much, too fast for me. (Yes, compared to most of you, I do indeed suck.) I think I'll stick to the levels below Standard for now until I get used to the game and improve some more.
