Then make sure it's in StepMania/Songs/(a folder)/(another folder) and not inside anymore folders inside that, and that there's at least the steps and music file there.
Ok, if you still aren't getting it to work, follow these steps:
1. Make a folder in the Songs folder.
2. Download the zip file into the folder you just made.
3. Unzip the file, and it should put it in it's own folder inside that folder.
1. we made a folder in the songs folder in stepmaina
2. then downloaded the ziped file into the folder we made in songs
3. extracted from the zip folder
4. tryed to play and it didn't work
....................
I don't know what to say then. I guess you could try going into StepMania, then options, then reload songs/courses, and see if it shows up then, or maybe you just downloaded a sim that someone made that doesn't work.

Are you making sure that when you unzip the folder you aren't unzipping to "song name" which would make the folder in a folder, which would make it not work. It has to be stepmania/songs/groupfolder/songfolder/song.mp3 (etc).
When you open the stepmania folder it should take three folders exactly before you get to the information. Make sure it's not four or two, because it won't work then.
2. Select the part of the song you wish to record, which can be done by setting area markers with the space bar, or by if you just played part or all of the song, it will be selected.
3. Use left and right to change it to 8th notes, or whatever you want it to round all the notes to while recording.
4. Press ctrl R. Then, you can use the 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys to add notes while the song is playing.
Hey, n00b here, read through, can't find an answer.
Is there a way I can get either stepmania or flashflahsrevolution to play the steps straight through, and not canceling out because your score isn't high enough? I want to practice my footwork, but I don't have a dance mat.
When you are about to start a song, press start, which is enter, to enter options. In the second screen of options, there's one for fail, and just set it to off, and it will let you play through songs no matter how bad you do.
Edit: and, sorry, but you can't turn fail of in FFR yet, if ever.
