First rule to learn, the illustrious Edit button!

If you look to the lower right of all of your posts, you'll find a button labled "Edit". There, instead of just making another post, you can simply edit your post to how you want. This is to help prevent spam.

Speaking of which, editing posts also keeps you out of trouble, because it's generally advised to not double post.

I'm going to have to tell you this before you make the same mistake I did/do. FFR hates people who post too often. Post for a bit, and then come back a week later and people wont hate you so much it seems.

edit: and yeah use the edit button. The only place that you can post 2 posts without editting in is the Garbage Bin (stay out unless you think that you'd like the idea of slamming people in there for the lolz)

I disagree; I think acceptability depends on the context. If there's an active thread, and if you have a lot to say, why not speak your mind? On the other hand, a lengthy back-and-forth between two people should be taken to private messages or some other medium.

If your post could be useful or entertaining to everyone, then go for it! If whatever you want to say only involves one person or is unrelated to the original topic, then you could go to the user's profile and post a comment.

I totally agree with this statement. I also would like to add that it also depends on which thread you are posting in.

Anyway, welcome to the forums. You can read the rules if you want but in my opinion, most of the rules are common sense unless if you are totally new into posting on a forum of any type. You can also scan through other thread stickies if you want to. You might find some useful information.
