[Uni - HST111] Suggestion on Essay Topic.

Seeing how it's worth 25% of my mark, i'm looking to get opinions through as many people as I can to see what topic might inspire an interesting read, since I believe the more interesting a paper the better the mark.

The course is European History from 1350-1789, and this is the choice of essay topics. So what would you find interesting?

Describe the major characteristics of the Renaissance papacy. What impact did the policies of the Renaissance popes have on the Catholic Church?

How do you account for the emergence of Baroque art and architecture in Europe? What common characteristics do the arts share throughout Europe in the Baroque period? How and why do they vary in different parts of Europe?

Why did the Reformation begin in the German states? What factors contributed to the success of the Reformation there?

Discuss the reign of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and the main challenges he had to face. How did he deal with each of his major problems?

Discuss the career of Saint Ignatius Loyola and his founding of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). What contribution did the Jesuits make to Roman Catholic reform in the 16th century?

Discuss the situation in Ireland during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. In what way was English policy in Ireland a failure?

“The Thirty Years’ War is the outstanding example in European history of meaningless conflict.” Do you agree or disagree?

Why was there a Civil War in England in the 1640s?

What changing conditions contributed to the decline of Spain and Italy in the 17th century?

Louis XIV liked to be called the “Sun King”, and his reign is often seen as a glorious epoch in French history. Do you agree or disagree with this assessment?

How do you explain the emergence of the Scientific Revolution in the 17th century?

Describe the ways in which Enlightenment thought was spread. What role did women play in this process?

The Seven Years’ War was a turning point in history. Why?

If he's AAAing a FGO but then heard that his favorite Hockey team was losing by a point, Hockey > FFR

The one that stands out the most is the question about the Scientific Revolution in the 17th century. If it weren't for the people that had the idea of disagreeing with god as an explanation for natural phenomena, we wouldn't have the current science we have today.

You'll probably find some guys with interesting new ideas that were frowned upon back in that time period. Just my input.

I agree with Dossar. The Scientific Revolution in the 17th century looks like an interesting topic.

"“The Thirty Years’ War is the outstanding example in European history of meaningless conflict.” Do you agree or disagree?"

I'd go with that. It's an opinion based question, so idk, probably more comfortable to write, share your point of view on the Thirty Years War.

id go with "How do you account for the emergence of Baroque art and architecture in Europe? What common characteristics do the arts share throughout Europe in the Baroque period? How and why do they vary in different parts of Europe?" just because its art and architecture related :d

The Seven Years’ War was a turning point in history. Why?

This sounds like the good basis for a paper that could incorporate a lot of different ideas in one. It seems like revolves around a major event that has a huge effect on today's current society - could be easier for you to write about and you might end up with a paper that has a ton of content.

                Stay away from agree/disagree topics.

The 2nd is easiest to write about since you have 3 very similar questions that will make up for a concise essay; it's practically an outline.

                  My picks.

Both are IMO quite easy to write, lots of information from many sources to get to put into it.
