Help me make sure Im correct.

Ok, I got these problems and I belive I am correct, but just wanted to make sure. This is my study guide for finals and want to know if I did it right. just post the answers you got and i will compare to what I got.

1:karen wants to measurethe height of the streetlight outside her house. she places a mirror on the ground 40 feet from the streelight ,then walks backward until she is able to see the top of the streetlight in the mirror.Her eyes are 5.4 feet above the ground ,and she is 12 feet away from the mirror. What is the height of the streetlight to the nearest tenth of a foot?

It's kind of really hard for me to understand what you're saying, because your mechanics are kind of off and such. Also, this is more like asking for an answer. Unless you can state what you believe is correct and show your work, I'm not going to indicate anything.

and 2 is easy as hell are you kidding me lol

ps I kinda don't understand #1 because I'm sick of studying all day long for my math final as well, and spending 5 hours kind of makes me want to puke and stray away especially from word problems. It's more like I don't want to understand it, maybe lol

uh, i suck at these threads. lol.

#1- I used the pythag. theroem thingy. i drew a lamp post and a pic of a mirror and labled it 40 feet away. drew another line of a girl 12 ft from the mirror. then drew a line labled 5.4 ft for her hight. made these into triangles. then i used the pythag on the girl one and got 13.15 for the slanted thing between the mirror and her eyes. then i noticed they were 3.3 away so multiplied each by 3.3 and got the closest anwer to letter D

#2 Just plugged in on my Calc and closest was D.

#1- It has nothing to do with the Pythagorean Theorem. It's a really, really simple problem with just ratios. The distance between the streetlight and the mirror is 40 feet, and the distance between her and the mirror when she can see the top is 12 feet. She sees it at 5.4 feet. 40/12 = 10/3, and you multiply 5.4 feet by 10/3 to figure out the height, which is 18 feet (A).

#2- You didn't even need to think or use a calculator. D is the only logical answer; every other answer makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
