    Publicity quiz - Homework help

I need 12 participants for this homework. Basically, I'll show you two ads and tell you two questions. I'll be very grateful if you help me.

    Ad #1

Question 1 : What's this ad is telling you ? What do you understand from this picture ?

Don't reveal this spoiler before answering question 1

Text says : Buckle up. Stay alive.

Question 2 : On a scale from 0 to 10, how would you note the effectiveness of the message ?

    Ad #2

Question 1 : What's this ad is telling you ? What do you understand from this picture ?

Don't reveal this spoiler before answering question 1

Text says : One letter is all it takes. Don't text and drive.

Question 2 : On a scale from 0 to 10, how would you note the effectiveness of the message ?

Re: Publicity quiz - Homework help

    first one is drive safe
id give it a 6/10 without words and 7/10 with text. clever but the colour choice and the lack of relation with me means it wouldnt be as effective if there was a way i could relate to the image.

long island ice T and soccer is a great mix when out in a sky blue ocean
    1/10 lol

      1. Wear a seatbelt, drive safely, yada yada... 10/10 without text and 9/10 with text - I feel the message is more powerful without text, as I find the text does nothing to help its effectiveness.

      2. What even is in this picture? Without text I was not able to figure out its meaning at all 0/10. With text, it is 6/10 since the context was given in 1pt font.

1: I honestly didn't really understand the msg at first, buh.
        w.o text = 3/10
        with text = 6/10
Kinda neat but also could be translated to; putting on a seat-belt will kill you.

2: After getting the first one I had a clue on what this would be like.
Even with that knowledge it still didn't make much sense to me.
        with and w/o text = 1/10
I guess that with the perceived view(they prolly want you to pretend that you are the driver and you are texting) you do not really notice the boy running across the street chasing his ball like an idiot because he didn't even look for traffic, and he is running fxcking diagonally across the intersection, and since you don't notice the boy because you begin to text one damn letter which I presume is "T"(i guess they were trying to be clever by making the road look like a "T" and use it in their msg, "one letter is all it takes".) you while inevitably hit the retarded boy.

imo it's just bad all over. Too minimal for the overall msg and too flawed because the ball is frkn safe, and with common sense the child will wait for the car to pass. Even so, most textdrivers will notice the intersection long before and stop there. Thus, letting the boy pass and receive his ball, which he shouldn't even have been playing near traffic in the first place.

Now this all goes back to his parents and how they just didn't teach him how to properly handle traffic. once again. 1/10

The first one I understood immediately without text and I think it gets the point across. The other I had no idea what it was referring to until I opened the spoiler.

Re: Publicity quiz - Homework help

I apologize if this is late, but I might as well give this a try.

Ad 1, Question 1: There's a seatbelt...so the first thing that comes to my mind is a "Don't Drink and Drive"-like message.

Ad 2, Question 1: We have a soccer athlete in the background here, and I can faintly see a soccer ball lying around. But the problem is that the athlete is running in the darker shade of "blue", and the ball is in the lighter. Maybe if the alhlete really wanted to score a goal from, say, 30 meters, he'd have a find a way to leave that dark zone and kick that ball far enough so that it flies past the goaltender and into the net.

Ad 1, Question 2: Hey, I was right. The "2012" even seems to be covered up by the belt, so it was obvious that this had to do with drunk driving...or more specifically, not wearing a seatbelt. I give it an 8/10. Okay, maybe this could have been a "DDAD" message if a vector graphic of a beer bottle was also on the guy's shirt.

Ad 2, Question 2: This is basically the same message as the first ad now that I think of it. I give it a 3/10 based on content matter in relation to the text. I don't know, it just doesn't seem like the best way to advertise a "Don't Text and Drive" message.

Well, hum, yes you are a bit late for this. ^^ I sent this homework 1 month ago and got a good mark, thanks to everyone that helped me.
And your answers reflect pretty much what everyone said, good sign. About the second ad, the concept is good, but without the text, the image is confusing, proof that sometimes the text can be crucial to understand the meaning of a publicity.
