    Thinking Logically

If nothing is better than Eternal Bliss,
And a ham sandwich is better than nothing,
Then a ham sandwich trumps eternal bliss

    Debate.

      Re: Thinking Logically

The nothing that is better than eternal bliss is positive infinity.

And the nothing that is worse that a ham sandwich is negative infinity.

They are on different ends of the spectrum.

Also if a direct comparison is possible, logic says that it is the most simple and elegant course of action. In that case, we can say that eternal bliss is better than a ham sandwich.

Oh, and in before lock :P

Redundancy, in general terms, refers to the quality or state of being redundant, that is: exceeding what is necessary or normal; or duplication. This can have a negative connotation, especially in rhetoric: superfluous or repetitive; or a positive implication, especially in engineering: serving as a duplicate for preventing failure of an entire system.

In formal logic: equivocation is a type of logical fallacy

Goat, do you not understand the meaning of equivocation, or do you just fail to see how it relates to your own thread?

which is why i changed the subject... in equivocation, the fallacy is understood. he didnt have to retype it

Oh, I guess it may have been a bit redundant, but I thought it sounded better with that preface.

if you refer to 'nothing' as everything is not as good as Eternal Bliss then your statement is false, but if you refer to 'nothing' as its own object then the statement is true.

Both statements are true in their own context regardless, but when put together, the argument is not sound because of the equivocal use of 'nothing'.
