    Re: A Hard Math Problem

    surface integrals are piss easy, there's no thought involved in any level of calculus, who are you kidding if that's mind-straining
    but for now... postCount++

        I already knew it was 124, thus my comment.

          ROFL I'm a dumbass whoops - I ****ed up the summation of the first part, that should be:

          So that's (1+6+11+16+...+91+96) + (76+51+26+1) = (sum(i=0 to 19,1+5i)) + (154) = 20 + sum(i=0 to 19,5i) + 154 = 20 + 5sum(i=0 to 19,i) + 154 = 20 + 5(19)(20)/2 + 154 = 174 + 50*19 = 174 + 950 = 1124; 1124 mod 1000 = 124, which is the answer

          hahaha, sorry ^^;; I'm pretty sure I did it right on the actual AIME though :P

            blahblah apparently you never did challenging surface integrals, that or they always let you evaluate them on mathematica. when you get iterated integrals with 7th degree trig functions in them, have fun doing that by hand and telling me it is easy

                It's true. I was quite surprised at how simple in concept flux integrals and the like were.

                  well, then apparently you werent taking it in u of MN IT, cuz i got a 36 on my math subsection of ACT and i still find it difficult, either way im not out to say that one particular concept is the hardest ever, its just what were doin right now. id say most of my algorithms and data structures class is harder, especially inductive proofs, i hate them

                        Some term he's making up to sound smart

                        The only analysis I know of involves lots of calculus.

                          in my HS, Math Analysis was a fancy term for Trig.

                              While this doesn't really contribute much to the conversation, I can't say I'm the least bit fond of mathematics. Too... consistent. Granted, that's the beauty of it, but it seems like there's never room for discussion in the idea of differing opinions, as much as right and wrong ones. What's 2+2? 4. On the moon, what's 2+2? Still 4. The Earth just imploded and we're all dead... still 4. Bah.
