    Re: This isnt intellectualism.

To Jewpin: Still not what I meant. Try a more abstract sense, rather than the literal meaning.

As for all the members with posted pictures: That's their destruction of personal freedom. Surely you can see the ignorance inherent? The sheer walls of stupidity they construct around their feet? Who doesn't want to be anonymous? Why post your picture and phone number for all, rather than just the people you trust? The one time they aren't in a situation with peer pressure, they pressure themselves. They create an atmosphere where they're caged, once again. Like throwing away the key directly after you've found it again.

This is exactly the kind of attitude and "critical thinking" I was attacking. These people, and you, if you're one of them, disgust me. Trying to fit in is the most vulgar compulsion possible.

I want to use the word scum, but the sad fact is, almost everybody acts like that. Compelled and controlled by their own whims, shaped by what they've been taught. Never, ever, looking up.

Emotional yuppies. Filling your life up with just another type of currency...

    Scum.

      Re: This isnt intellectualism.

So now you're calling our site scum.

No offense dude... but if that is all you plan on doing here... stop. Go bug other sites where they might be more willing to humor you (or attack you more harshly, if that is how you get your jollies).

We aren't going to change just because you come along and think its so sad that we're close enough to share our image with each other. We've held local meetups... I've met people from this site in my travels to other parts of the country, and vice versa. We like our forum, the people on the forum, and ourselves (for the most part). I hope you can find such a place for yourself.
      RIP

          Re: This isnt intellectualism.

I never said I was better, did I? I just hate the propensity for lockstep most exhibit. This is a purely personal attack, my ideals, against yours.

I never brought any universally moralistic views, or any sort of puritanism whatsoever, into the argument. So leave them out.

Tasselfoot: I will not stop until you lock the topic. So go ahead. I won't start another one, because my point will have been made.

Somewhere deep in that post lays a message that is nothing but the truth. Too bad the post is so cynical and 'abstract' it's overlooked.

Sure, there are people that feed off being 'in' and are fed by the media. Brainless, superficial beings that do not act off their own thoughts. 50% of the population is below average intelligence. However, posting a picture doesn't put you in this category. Have you ever heard of having a little fun and branching out? You should try it sometime. You come across as nothing more than a whiner in that post. The universe is a wonderful place. There is more to it than being overly critical about everything.

*yawn* this thread really isn't going anywhere. XD

Actually, this thread deserves a lock for trolling and flaming. Locking it wouldn't prove anything.

                Catcher in the Rye anyone?

Has a valid point, but, the purpose of this forum isn't intellectualism, it's debate. No where does it say we try to attempt to be smart, it is inferred. It says "higher" thinking. As in, on a higher level than the rest of the site. This section accomplishes just that, and nothing more.

Wasn't there some guy like this two years back, attempting to be above everyone else in the forums.

Sorry, I don't like reading between the lines. It's a waste of my time. So much effort for such a little reward. Like squeezing the last drop of juice from an orange. Sure, it's one more drop I'll get to enjoy, but was it really worth it? So you'll have to forgive me when I say I still dont get what you mean. Perhaps you could explain it in simple, literal terms that my feeble mind will be able to comprehend.

As for all the members with posted pictures: That's their destruction of personal freedom. Surely you can see the ignorance inherent? But the destruction of personal freedom is fun! You know what, I've had an epiphany. I've always been anti-conformity and all that jazz. But you know what? Who cares? Sure, I could bitch about how stupid my fellow peers are, but what good does that accomplish? You can't argue with them. You wont change their mind. So, dont let it bother you. Let them be sheep. Do your own thing. Dont get caught up in other people's business. Alright, so I found the key, but if being free means I will be miserable, what reason do I have to free myself? Might as well lock myself in with those whom I have fun with.

I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.

This is the equivelant of Barry Bonds joining a Little League baseball team and expecting people to play to his level.

Not quite. This is like Michael Jordan walking into a bowling ally and expecting everyone to be playing basketball on his level.

The others will thank you, because I'm going to stop replying now. Usually, I'm pretty good with relativity, but I just went off the handle on this one. "On a higher level than the rest of the site." Like objective just means less subjective.

I missed this obvious point, but I still mean everything I said. Thank you, and good night.
