Lay, it was constructive criticism. I want to have a discussion about beliefs, but bringing faith into it won't get anyone anywhere; it's not at all credible or convincing. Please don't misunderstand my intentions. Like I said, your beliefs are honorable, but presenting them here isn't a good way to further the debate.

Shevic, I understand what you were trying to do; I just didn't think it was a good way of going about it.

Layladay, I'm sorry to have to do this but every so often I have to explain something.

Quite often there are the people who believe that many things can be acheived by rational, quantitive, and logical thought. These people tend to discuss things objectively and almost always play devil's advocate. Guido and I are such people.

The fact that religion is 90% faith, 10% fact is a very rough estimate, but true.

no, cuz in case you dont know, somewhere in the bible it says "thou shalt not worship any other god but me" or something like that, and for those that dont belive, how did everything get here? people, animals, trees, everything else, so god is the only belivable way right now.

and those who do belie, just keep believing in him, and those who dont, who gives a $*%#?

That doesn't necessarily make you a better person. That is their opinion and they are entitled to it, no matter how wrong you, me, or anyone else thinks it is.

As for the beliefs... I don't really believe in beliefs. I have my own seperate opinions, but they are not necessarily "beliefs" they are my own views on the world and things going on in it. While those beliefs may lead people to become "better" morally, I think it can cloud their mind from the big picture, due to things being mostly set out in black and white terms.

like one of the things people dont understand, is some people were raised to belive in him. When i wa gorwing up, i was in church EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY and friday night, and some were raised not to, so its alll about what you and youre family belive, but telling them different on some chat froum isnt gonna change anything so if they believe then they do and theres nothing you can do, so stop trying to push it into thier minds.

And i am a believer, so nothing yall can say to make me think didfferently, i stand by my religion, so im saying this now before anyone gets TO that point.

Christians are not homophobic or racist. I am not. What makes you think so. It is in Deuteronomy that says you may not lie down with another man or woman and the punishment is death. Those laws were revoked, though. Homosexuality is ok in Christianity. Racism...what? How did that come up? Christians, in my view, are an all inclusive people. Why would they hate one group?

Doesn't the fact that all of us have some level of desire for morality kinda show that God exists and he made us? If there wasn't a God, how would we know what is good and what is not?

I don't understand how that is at all a convincing argument for the existence of God. Is the development of morality completely dependent of a Creator? The way I see it, man could just have easily developed morality without God. I can see that there can be drawn a connection between Judeo-Christianity (i.e. the Old Testament) and modern morality, but I don't think it's at all causal.

Adding to what rtt7 said, no, that doesn't prove anything. It's like saying that smoking a pipe makes you live longer just because statistics say that people who are very old quite often smoke pipes. It's not that smoking a pipe makes them old, it's that being old makes them smoke. It just doesn't work like that.

Knowing good and evil doesn't mean you will act upon it. Part of the reasoning behind this is that morality is not a universal thing that appears in all humans from birth. If that were so, we'd all have the same cultures and laws in every country. Instead, morals have been twisted from one culture to another because of different perspectives. It wasn't wrong for Fiji natives to cannibalize foreigners from the native Fijian point of view. So it became a tradition based off of morals.

Now, to continue on what I believe. All I know is that Christ dying on the cross to take away everyone's sins is the most economically efficient thing that ever happened. Ever.

Look, only people that can see past the unbelievable can believe in him. You cant expect somebody with no imagination or somebody wh does think life exists past their front door to believe in him. Like I said, Only one person can decide for you.
