Hi everyone, I'll just get down to the point here. Ok I have a g/f and she has trust issues i guess with guys and weve been together for about 3 weeks. And she got so stressed over me trying to trust me she cut her wrist. But she said not to kill her self just focus all her pain on what was on her mind, to make it go away. She sent this to me in a e-mail before she left on vacation and i honestly dont know what to do about it or even how to react. My question is Why do people cut their wrists to try and make the pain go away? I mean why hurt yourself physically when your already mad mentally? I just don't understand..

Ummm..well...I can answer this (sadly) It does take your mind off the pain you're feeling from something emotional. Looking back on it, I feel really really stupid. It is stupid, but at the time, y'know...oh well.
Well, to answer your question, it sort of takes your mind off the emotional pain (btw, I never slit my wrist, but, well...I have scars on my arms)

I've gone out with a cutter... and they've explained it to me..
They do it because the pain in the mind is so much worse than physical pain that they cut themselves and focus on that pain.. supposedly making the mental pain go away..
Its not really something stupid- Have you tried it?.. have you ever felt that bad? its a serious issue.
I mean- in the end.. different people have different ways of dealing with their pain.. I always just push it down, which i know is just as bad as cutting.
But your g/f, she seems like shes one of those people who cut just to get attention. 'real' cutters do not cut and go ' hey... guess what i did last night? 'Comment

usually it is for attention, and also as an outlet for mental issues...i went out with a girl who broke a window and carved my name into her arm, and who also cut her vagina...whenever i asked her why, she would say she liked pain...one of the reasons was because she was struggling with anorexia and belemia...and it was also for attention...to be honest, none of these reasons i've mentioned really do the reasons justice, and it's just hard to explain something so complex...your girlfriend should definitely go to therapy, perhaps even to the hospital...this seemed to help the girl i went out with....why she would choose to cut her vagina is still a mystery to me thoughI'll trade you this delicious doorstop for your crummy old danish.
