Bible Passage Thread

I've been reading some interesting passages in the Bible lately and I thought you guys might be interested. Feel free to contribute if you come across any! The ones I will post are from the Saint Joseph Edition New American Bible.

A woman shall not wear an article proper to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's dress; for anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, your God.

I found it interesting that this was even mentioned in the Bible. I had no idea cross-dressing was around since the Old Testament.

No one whose testicles have been crushed or whose penis has been cut off, may be admitted into the community of the Lord.

I would guess sex changes were not around then, so it's interesting that such a strong statement is made. Even the accidental removal of one's genitals will bar you from the community of the Lord, which I find a bit odd. Although this does remind me of a story about the brother of King Kamehameha. Before he was captured and killed by his enemies, he decided they would not take him as a man and... ya know.

When two men are fighting and the wife of one intervenes to save her husband from the blows of his opponent, if she stretches out her hand and seizes the latter by his private parts, you shall chop off her hand without pity.

I agree.

When you go through your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat as many of his grapes as you wish, but do not put them in your basket. When you go through your neighbor's grainfield, you may pluck some of the ears with your hand, but do not put a sickle to your neighbor's grain

This one caught my attention. I think of this as a possible analogy to streaming music/movies vs downloading. Again, probably not what was in mind, but I think that this passage applies nicely.
