    Memory

    What is our memory?
Why does it only remember certain things?
How does it select those events?
Why do we lose memory of events as time goes by?
What's the best way to study for a test?
Remembering sounds, images, feelings, smell, and tastes

What triggers the recalling, remembering of something?

    Mental Stimulus?

Can our memory be controlled/altered/accessed through hypnosis?

    Relation to dreams/random thoughts?

Could we have memories of things that we never experienced?

The parts of the brain related to memory.

    Interesting.

We remember things that never happened all the time. In the same way we forget things that do happen intentionally. People aren't happy with their everyday deeds, so they try to make 'em a little better. After a while you forget that you've made up these improvements and simply remember them as truth. Happens all the time.

We remember dreams (some dreams), and those experiences never happened. Sometimes, we'll mix dreams with our reality because similiar things happen in them. I often wonder if maybe dreams are a prophecy of the future (the sensical dreams.. not the random ones). I remember when I was 12 or so I had a dream I got in trouble for riding my bike across the road in Niagra Falls. Then, that day we went to Niagra Falls, I rode my bike across the road, and got in trouble for it. Wierd.

Anyways, our brain actually is just a pile of electrical impulses.. I've also heard that our brain works like a filing cabinet, storing related memories in the same place. I've also heard our brain stores things by forced relationship. (Ie: Turkey is invaded in 1900: Picture an army attacking 1900 Turkeys.) Our brain will relate this memory to us when we see a turkey, or when we see the number "1900". It works, apparently.

I think all dreams are random. Not completely, because obviously some have relevance to events in reality... but I doubt they're much more than biological occurences.

We actually don't lose memory. Its just that other memories "hide" them.

If you don't understand what I mean, here is a small story.

My mother's freind had a husband. This man's first language was french. But as he grew up, he learned english and totally forgot how to speak french. One day, he had an accident (I don't remember if it was a car accident) and he lost short term memory. The amazing thing is that he could only speak french! He had totally forgot about english.

I have a limited memory. I remember something about an explosion in the military base in South Korea, but that was so long ago. If I could only remember my past... wait... wha?... I'm sorry what am I doing. I can't tell you any more.

I happen to think some dreams are predicting future occurences cuz I've had dreams and later I've experienced it and I remember that I've had a dream about it, thats happened atleast 20 times. That movie Butterfly Effect was pretty cool all that stuff about memory.

Dreams are weird, but scientists like to say that they're parts that our subconscious is thinking about all the time, and can only be acted out while we sleep.

And yeah, We never forget memories, we just have no way of accessing them. I believe the memories of all our lives experiences are kept in our brains, as clear as the day they happened. Some day we'll be able to experience any of them any time we want, that'll be sweet.

I think that there are too many types of dreams just to call them all dreams. (or nightmares)
