    The MBTI

I didn't see any recent thread other the MBTI so I decided to open a thread about it. Basically, it's the most accurate yet relatively simple personality test.

Some sites that may help you knowing what the MBTI is :

PersonalityPage.com is a site dedicated to Psychological Type offering free tests and extensive resource materials.

    And some tests :

Online test based on Jung and Briggs Myers typology provides your personality formula, the description of your type, list of occupations, and option to assess your compatibility against any soulmate

    http://www.mypersonality.info (<- requires inscription)
Well, I don't really trust the internet tests because they're usually off by one preference ; but still, they provide a pretty accurate result. The best thing to do would to learn the whole protocol (along with the cognitive functions that basically are the KEY to make accurate assessments)

As for me, just as seen in my signature, I'm INFJ and I think most people here have an INTx/INFP type. It's something I remarked on most forums I was on and polls made on these communities. But it wouldn't astonish me if my estimations were wrong hah, since I think there's still a fair variety of personality types here (and there again, I may be wrong).
Let's get that thread started : post your type, or discuss MBTI.

    Re: The MBTI

I seem to get INTJ or ISTJ evertime on whatever test I take. It's fun to do, it's fun belonging to some kind of category. I don't think it should be taken as seriously as it is though. It might have some relation to your personality type, but it is pretty loosely defined.

INTP - "Architect". Greatest precision in thought and language. Can readily discern contradictions and inconsistencies. The world exists primarily to be understood. 3.3% of total population.

Highly accurate description of me, actually.

@Izzy Actually, the MBTI is accurate as hell in my opinion, if you just know the basics (like preference, and what defines them) of course it can be something you just see as a "quite accurate test which makes a close enough analysis" ; but if you get interested in it, and you get yourself to learn the cognitive functions, your opinion on the thing is subject to change. Of course it doesn't pretend to scan the whole personality of anybody, but it provides informations on the very basis of that personality.
I know much things in psychology (among other things eh), and in my opinion, the MBTI is a really useful tool. But that's just my opinion.

I had this in my signature for who knows how long. It's might be slightly inaccurate by now since I took this test over a year ago, and 2011 has been a year of change for me.

Sadly, this test is perceived among the public to be fairly accurate, but clinically it's garbage. None of the personologists I worked with (I was in psych and neuro for 5 years before starting Dental School) respect this test and it has terrible predictive value and even validity.

Or put plainly; the value of the test isn't supported by empirical evidence. It's literally rubbish, and it wouldn't matter so much except for the fact that many groups and companies ostensibly use this product to measure things it isn't designed to measure.

OCEAN is a better model of personality. The best we have right now. The Neo-pi-r is probably the most commonly used personality test on the market right now used by psychologists, personologists, psychometricians etc in the field. You can take a quick version of the test here: http://www.personal.psu.edu/~j5j/IPIP/ipipneo300.htm

(And I can say from experience, having taken the test, that this is a very good representation of the test).

I made that thread in the goal to get a post like that, so I could see if there was a better way to "scan" a personality.
                    Now it's complete.
