    DDR Tournament

Me and a friend have convinced the manager of a local arcade to host a DDR tournament, and he is completely ready to do it... Given I can advertise enough and draw attention to it, ETC.

The arcade in question is Malibu Grand Prix, in Norcross Georgia. That's about 20 minutes north of Atlanta.

The machine is DDR Extreme, and they have replaced 80% of the sensors about a month and a half ago(I helped install them), and now the machine is working beautifully on both sides. I make sure they keep the volume at a very good level, and it's probably the loudest game anywhere in the floor area. The pads are also visibly clean.

The game itself is only TWENTY FIVE cents per 3 songs, not including extra stage, which all of you should understand is an amazing price for an arcade game. No joint premium, sorry. It's also no fail until the end of the song.

One of the best parts... This tournament will have big cash prizes.
1st place is guaranteed $500 and there will also be smaller 2nd and 3rd place prizes. I havent personally ever been in a DDR tourney, but Ive wanted to for a very long time, so I really wanted to get a lot of attention for this.

I need anyone who's interested to post and let me know, so I can report a number to the manager. Granted we get a large enough number of people (Currently I think about 10 people I know will show up just from my personal circle) this tourney should probably take place some time in the december-january range.

Of course, the manager wants to make a profit and is wondering about an entry fee(something small) So let me know what is reasonable.

Since Ill probably also be the one hosting/managing the tournament, tips and pointers for running it would be very welcome too xD

    Re: DDR Tournament

If this wasn't so horribly far, I'd go for it. I could probably put up a good fight in a bar/no-bar singles tournament + bar doubles tournament, haha.

EDIT: poor edit - meant to say if you need help running the tournament, you can talk to me, haha

Yeah, thats what im hoping for.
Im good as in I can SDG a lot of songs, but I would wet myself just seeing people I know from FFR completely rape the machine. I love seeing pure talent on DDR/ITG, so Im really hoping some people make the trek.

I love to get some pics with people too xD

Too far away though, unfortunately. It would be really nice, haha.

If I get serious money I might be down for this (Longgggggg drive), but I don't know what the chances of that would be >.> No-bar represent~

The first thing you as the tournament director will want to figure out is the tournament's format. Determining how matchups are to be generated as well as the method by which a song's winner is determined are key, BEFORE you get how many people are going to be showing up for this event. Related to this is developing rules for how contestants are to compose themselves, what sorts of activity would be grounds for a DQ, and how to handle mechanical issues such as pad misses.

The next thing: Song selection. I went out for a DDR tournament once, and the way I was asked to do it was to scrawl three charts that my opponent was to pick from before a stage started, and I would similarly pick from my opponent's card. You can do it that way, or you can try something else. (In the same tournament, the winner of a song as determined by straight PA would then dig into a pile of paper slips and pull out one that could, potentially, modify his score to the point that he lost the song instead.)

Finally, with a $500 purse for the winner and prizes for 2nd/3rd as well, the stakes will be extremely high. It wouldn't be unreasonable for you to charge $10 right now and $20 "at the door" given what people are playing for.

Yeah, I understand. I just got official permission yesterday so I got a little excited and posted this before really thinking of how it would be run. I was thinking I could get some suggestions and stuff. Also, itll most likely be my friend running it. not me since he's actually run a tourney before

I'm already paying 25c to play the game, but your manager wants an entrance fee too? This is why all of us are out there at OccupyWallstreet: because of the greedy mongrels like that who live for nothing but the margin line.

I wish you luck but sadly will not be participating in said tournament~

Possible interest. Need more info. Etc...

Also you should really put the location in the thread title. At least put the state. There are so many people in the US and all over the world who play this game and most people will skip over a generic "DDR Tournament" thread if you don't have that much at least. I almost skipped it over myself for that very reason.
