    Just bought a harddrive

Got to tell ffr about it.

Buy Seagate BarraCuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!

I'm thinking of re-installing my OS on the new drive because it is twice as fast. Discuss hardware and shit I guess.

yeah ok comp thread, I could actually use one for once since having a job rocks. I want a new mobo/cpu. I haven't kept up with hardware news for years so I'm completely out of the loop. Suggestions welcome. intel or amd, I have no preference. Rest of this setup is:

      650w psu
      5850
      gigabyte ep45-ud3l i think
      c2d E8500
      2x2gb RAM

mobo needs at least 2 pciex8 and I'm thinking core i3-2100 and gigabyte x68xp-ud3

I've had the same computer for about 6 years now so it is starting to show its age. Besides not having the money I haven't gotten a new computer because there isn't anything I want to run that my current computer can't already run. Although I've been putting parts into it such as a 9800 gtx, more ram, and new harddrives.

Once I graduate from school I might indulge myself with a new PC.

My main drive only holds 113 GB

It is a laptop hard drive, and solid state, though. So I don't really expect to have a huge amount of space - if I ever need that, I can always use an external.

So how well does the Seagate Barracuda perform?
I might need another hard drive in the near future

I don't really know how to judge a HD's performance in comparison to other brands. All I know is it doesn't make any noise and it doesn't have any delays when navigating its contents. However, I'd expect that of any modern HD.

What the heck do you have stored on all those drives? I download videos every day and I still don't have that many files.

Performance as in burst or sequential read/write speeds, boot speed, etc.
In regards to my hard drives... ummm... yeah... I download a lot. Mostly lossless music and anime.
I have to constantly burn files onto dvds to open up the slightest space :P

I'm thinking about picking up a hard drive as well, at least 1tb. My current 500gb data drive is 70% full.
