    Ipconfig don't work?

In attempts to setting up a static IP address, due to random disconnects with various different programs, i.e: standalone prochat, Skype, ect. I've followed a simple tutorial on Youtube, and also read a few step by steps online.

They all say to "Run" my Command Prompt, via "cmd"
then type in "ipconfig" when the command prompt is open.

    I get this error:

Is this normal? If so, how do I set up a static IP?

    All help is appreciated, thanks.

Point your command prompt's directory toward your system32 folder, and then try running it again.

    command:
CD C:\Windows\system32 <- this will move you to the system32 folder of your computer. Then, try running the ipconfig line in the prompt and see what it tells you.

You can do this, or just point it to the C drive itself. The batch file isn't stored in C:\Users, so that's most likely why it isn't working. Also, you might need to run as an admin if you're on Vista/7.

                  From command line type:

                  path

Check if there is something like C:\Windows\system32
If nothing like that shows up, right click on My Computer and go to:
                  Properties --> Advanced(Tab) --> Environment Variables
Find "Path" under System Variables. Go to "edit".
Append the following to the end of the value:

                  ;%SystemRoot%\system32

                  Try ipconfig again

                  I'm retired

Apparently, he has it working. He wasn't running CMD as an administrator.
