Re: FFR Memories
My favorite FFR memories actually revolved around the time I joined FFR. I had beasted Lawn Wake IV back when Shash was the only other AAA, and the BS calls began to mount. Shortly after that, I earned the first FGO AAA on the site with Caprice and also optimized Chrono Trigger (simultaneously proving that the entire community was wrong about how zeroframers worked).
I liked the skill/forum tokens, and building my way up the levelranks was an interesting process. It was fun to take on files like Silence, Grand Gallop Chromatique, Vertex Beta, BB Evolution, and Sympathizer.
Beating Vertex Beta vROFL with DS/quadholding was also a fun memory of mine.
But most of my nostalgia comes from the pre-FFR era. I miss the old, old days of DDR/Stepmania back when Bemaniruler, Arch0wl, Reach, and Nima were active. The community was bustling and lots of great files were made. People were still discovering the limits of what could be done in terms of performance.
In many ways I feel like there was a strong correlation between the strength of the community and the status of DDR. Things were great up to DDR Extreme. Once Supernova started coming out, the community began to tank and things haven't quite recovered since. Konami's made many wrong moves in response to how to choose their music and how to step their files.
All the legal crap didn't help either, esp. with respect to RoXor. ITG was an amazing step forward and it's a shame that things didn't take off harder than they did. To me, the death of DDR and ITG signified the turning point.
